The Citizen, 2003-11-26, Page 27THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 2003. PAGE 27. At the Branch Legion members videotape at schools By Jo-Ann McDonald On Tuesday and Wednesday this week, the Brussels Legion’s child videotaping team was at Brussels and Grey Central Public Schools. The Child Video program is an effective manner of identification that shows the normal gait of a child, normal speech pattern and three views, left, right and straight forward, the tapes become the property of the school or school board but the program is funded by the Royal Canadian Legion. Parents must sign a consent form and return it to the school. We are pleased to say that these tapes have never been used for the purpose for which they are intended but one never knows when they might be invaluable. The age groups taped include kindergarten, Grade 4 and Grade 8 students as well as any new students to the school and area. The Brussels videotaping team includes youth chairman Sandra Josling, comrades Glenn Bridge, Jo- Ann McDonald and Marg Bennett. The Cadets met Tuesday evening as usual and still encourage interested young people to come out and see what it is all about. They are continuing selling chocolate bars as a fundraiser. The Thursday night darts had a good group out to play. The lucky first place pair was Cassie Bootzin and Ken Bird. Coming in second were Terry Buchanan and Sandra Josling and picking up third place was the trio of John Harrison, Lynda Shaw and Bill Kammerman. The high shot of the night for the men was Bruce Clark with a 162 and for the ladies Judy Buchanan. The Friday night supper of lasagna had around 35 enjoy the meal. This week is sweet and sour chicken pasta. Friday evening a few comrades gathered to judge the poster, essay and poems submitted by students of Brussels and Grey Central Public Schools. There were 173 entries in the various categories to be judged. The theme is Remembrance for the Senior and Junior divisions of posters - coloured, posters black and white, poems and essays. A new class offered was posters by Grade 1, 2 and 3. There was a wide variety of impressions of Remembrance. Youth chairman Sandra Josling organized the divisions and the judges included Comrades Julie Harrison, Brenda Nicholls and Jo-Ann McDonald. Congrats to the winners who will be notified by Chairman Sandra. The first-place winners are sent on to zone level competitions and have the possibility of advancing to District, Provincial and Dominion levels. The Ladies Auxiliary and Branch members catered to the Knight family Christmas party on Saturday evening. The gathering enjoyed the traditional turkey dinner and a visit by Santa to the delight of the youngsters. The Saturday afternoon euchre had 13 tables at play. The lucky top prize winners were Carole Daer and Evelyn Christensen with 87 points. The second-place team of Rita Flynn and Verna Gibbings earned 79 points and third place was taken by Clarence Hoy and Norine Park with 72 points. The not-so-lucky-at-cards pair were Jo-Ann McDonald and Dot Carter earning only 39 points for low prize. The lone hand prizes went to Tom Sloan and Marie Stewart. The Sunday night singles dance of just over 70 enjoyed the music of Country Motion. Dances are every two weeks. Only three days left until the end of November to get your dues at the early bird price. Prices increase by $5 Dec. 1. We are still hoping to achieve our goal of 80 per cent early bird paid membership. Drop in after the Santa Claus parade this week to warm up, take part in some Branch activities and pay your dues.
