THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 2003. PAGE 15.
Hydro One arrangement to end Jan. 31
Huron East council received
notice at its Nov. 18 meeting from
Hydro One that the current joint use
arrangement will be terminated
effective Jan. 31.
In a letter Hydro One states that it
is pleased to continue to permit
“various municipal attachments on
its poles” (streetlights, banners, traffic
signals, etc.) at a rate of seventeen
cents per attachment per month or
$2.04 per attachment per year.
The lower portion of the poles will
continue to be offered at no charge
although side to side banners across
the road will no longer be permitted
as a safety precaution.***
All Huron East snowplow operators
will be attending a training course
focusing on liability and operations.
Public works co-ordinator John
Forrest explained that many of these
employees “have driven plows for
more than 30 years” but are self-
taught.
Understanding the liability aspect
as well as properly “setting the
plow” will be beneficial. The
employees will be awarded
certification upon completion.***
Huron East public works
department received the bridge
inspection report from B.M. Ross &
Associates regarding direction on
the condition and repair of bridges
within the municipality. With respect
to the Grieves Bridge which is off
County Rd. 12, between Seaforth
and Walton, B.M. Ross recommend
ed, “that the load limit be reduced to
five tonnes because of extensive
deterioration of the concrete.”
The company suggested
contacting bus companies and
emergency services to notify them
of the change but did not specify
whether the load restriction of five
tonnes was per axle or in total.
