Sports Close game for PeeWees Although they lost 5-3 against Seaforth on Nov. 10, the Blyth PeeWee Local League boys team played a great game. (Elyse DeBruyn photo) PeeWees lose 5-3 Although the Blyth PeeWee local league team lost 5-3 against Seaforth at home, Nov. 10, they still played a good game. The first goal was scored during the first period by Dallas Penington and assisted by Lucas Cooke and Jordan Bakelaar. Andrew Hess scored the second goal in the second period while Mike McDowell and Colton Ken- assisted. The third goal was scored by Colin Bokhout and assisted by Kaytee Richmond and Penington, in the third period. Andrew Bailey did a great job in the net. Juvies trounce Lucknow In a strong offensive effort Blyth Juveniles trounced a hosting Lucknow squad 6-1 Nov. 15. The visitors outshot their opponents 30-18 overall though they weakened somewhat in the third, allowing Lucknow more scoring opportunities. Travis Shelton was solid in the Blyth net. Blyth control of the game showed early with four unanswered first- period goals. Scoring were Micah Loder, Darrin Austin, Josh Miller and T.J. Marks. Assists went to Tyler Campbell, Marks and Miller. The second period was all Blyth’s as well with Campbell, assisted by Kyle Stevenson, and Austin bulging the twine. Relaxing somewhat in the third, the team allowed the shut-out to be broken with just over one minute remaining. The squad’s next home game is Friday, Nov. 21 at 9 p.m. against Clinton. (Vicky Bremner photo) Midgets win by an edge The Brussels Midgets claimed a narrow victory over Mitchell in an away game. While holding the hosts down, Brussels got on the board in the first, when Adam McCJure, assisted by Brent Wheeler, skated in to score. The squad jumped ahead by two early in the middle period with Wheeler finding the net. Helpers went to Cory Chapman and Greg Bowers. Less than a minute later, Steven Ropp popped in the third goal set up by Brandon Blake. As the clock ticked down the final minutes of the period, Mitchell pulled within one, then tied it with just under five minutes left in the game. Blake gave his team the win, with a goal at the 3:17 mark. Darcey Cook assisted Cronin solid in net Adam Cronin had a great game in Blyth’s net for the Atoms when they took on Micthell Nov. 16 and won 4- 2. With a late period goal in the first, Mitchell took the lead, but the visitors tied it in the second with a goal by Aaron Popp, set up by Cody Richmond. Mitchell jumped ahead again in the third, but Richmond and Popp responded to that one as well, this time with Popp returning the favour by setting up the play. Minutes later Popp scored again with help from Carly Whitfield and Richmond. Then with just two minutes left in the game, Trevor Raynard handed off to Jonathon Atkinson who skated in for the goal. Blyth had two minutes in penalties in this contest while Mitchell’s players spent a combined 12 minutes in the box. Coaching the Atoms was Cole Stewart and assisted by Chad Haggitt. to Clinton The Brussels Crusaders lost 5-2 to Clinton this past Friday night in Blyth. The Radars are the top team in the league and the Crusaders played well against them. Jay Evershed provided many key saves between the pipes for the Crusaders as he was called upon quite often. Goal scorers for Brussels were Tyler Armstrong and Mark Wilson. Mike Haggitt picked up two assists and Tyler Stewart added a single assist.
