New management is taking over
the Blyth Inn and creatively bringing
out the history of Blyth in their
renovations and decorations.
It will open on Nov. 13 with such
changes it “will shock people,” say
the new owners.
The grand opening weekend will
be Nov. 21, 22 and 23 with bands
playing on Friday and Saturday
night. There will be door prizes all
weekend, daily specials and children
under 10-years-old will eat for free.
A group ownership consisting of
Jim and Sheila Thompson, Cheryl
Thompson, Jason Rutledge and Jeff
and Michelle Nesbitt, have
repainted, redecorated and
refurnished the Blyth Inn and put
their “own touches” in it.
“It has always been a dream for
us,” said Michelle.
All the renovations have been
done independently with Jim as the
carpenter.
Rutledge was chef with the
Benmiller Inn before he became the
newest chef at the Blyth Inn.
The bar will have new hardwood
floors, paint, stools and equipment
including a big screen TV and a pool
table.
Along with new paint, the causal
dining area will have a new menu
and enlarged pictures of Blyth from
many years ago.
“Blyth history is a big part for us.
The more we looked into the history
of Blyth the more it piqued our
interest. We wanted to bring a part of
Blyth back into the restaurant,” said
Michelle.
The new menu will include
steakes, homemade burgers, pastas,
lunch features, daily specials,
homemade desserts, wing nights on
Thursdays and prime rib night on
Saturdays.
Jeff is taking a course on
bartending and he said he is trying to
come up with new and unique
drinks.
Jeff said they have plans to open
up the 11 bedrooms above the
restaurant by spring.
Michelle said the rooms will be
homey and comfortable for the
guests with nice bedding and fancy
taps in the bathrooms.
The Inn will be opened Sunday to
Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.
and Thursday to Saturday from 11
a.m. to 2 a.m.

Those concerned over pollution of
Huron County’s beaches will be
brought together for a meeting in
Clinton, Nov. 28.
Penny Nelligan, health unit
director, said the meeting is part of
the restructuring of her
organizations beach water program.
Health unit officials recently met
with scientists from the University
of Guelph to find an appropriate
methodology for testing of beach
water but there is no one approved
standard. “We felt it would be good
to get all the stakeholders together,”
she said, so scheduled a meeting

Neil Rintoul, Ashfield-Colbome-
Wawanosh councillor asked
Nelligan about the meeting
following release earlier that week
of a highly-publicized study by the
Ashfield Colborne Lakefront
Association that claimed E.coli
levels were up to 400 times the
acceptable levels.
The group also claimed that DNA
testing showed the source of the
pollution was animal, not human
waste.
“We need a response (to the
report),” Rintoul said. Worrying that
the accusations would set inland
farm groups against cottagers he
said “We don’t want to turn one
group against another.”
