COUNCILLORS RESIGN
The Luoknow council were some-
what divided over the selection of d
village constable. Three members
voted for R. J. Cameron, who at pres-
ent is a county constable, and the two
others supported W. J. Douglas, who
offered hie services for 5100 a year, or
just half what Cameron would work
for, the result Was that the two got
sore and resigned, The following
editorial taken from the Brussels Post
deals very well with such men as these,
who, when they do not get their own
way go away and pout.
"What a foolish notion some
people have regarding life, viz just
as soon as they meet with some r o-
bulf or can't have their way whether
right or wrong up go their heels,
away goes the dashboard and after.
this exhibition they resign their
office or their share of the work.
A cool bead and a steady nerve is
worth a good deal in such situations
and If argument will not suffice.
after dating your ease plainly but
kindly, cast your ballot or poll your
vote and wait the outcome. Your
judgment may not always bo right
or your plans may sometimes be
superseded, but don't fly oft the
handle and fume as in so doing yod
lose your influence and defeat the
very purpose you aimed at. Luck -
now has a case of somewhat similar
type where two Councillors resigned
because the three other members of
the Board elected a constable, con-
trary to their choice and at a larger
salary. You take note of almost
any argument or controversy and
before long one or both of the parties
get "mad" and as a rule, forsaking
the ground of dieoussion, they pitch
into personalities or outlandish
statements, the utterance of which
may rankle for many a. day. Some
folk wear a cabbage leaf in their
hat in the snmmerto keep their head
cool and we have often thought if
you and me. metaphorically, carried
with us such a preventative what
a large amount of contention and
scrappiug would be avoided and
good feliowehip and friendship
would prevail. Not a mollycoddle
a r
variety y bu t o understandable,
kindly method by which we would
better understand the point of view
of those with whom we differed.
Good advice was once offered in
these words, "If it be possible as
much as lieth in you, live peaceably
with all men." Try the "cabbage
leaf" plan and let us know how you
come out, instead of having your
Iittle tantrum over which some of
you have not felt any too nice, even
after the lapse of months. It's a
good idea to come to the conclusion
that we are not the only pebble on
the beach and thereby pay some at-
tention to the judgment of others."
Reeve Johnston has since pretty
well cleared up the minds of those
who thought the council extravagant
by showing where in a 'recent whiskey
case the fine of $200 will be put into
the village treasury whereas if the
constable appointed was notr a county
official the case would have had to be
dealt with by others and the- fine
would be paid to the county instead of
to the village. The three councillors
who remained on the board are now
even stronger than ever in the eyes of
the electors,

GEO. W. NEELY, Dorchester Sta,,
Ontario, says,
"I fertilized with Homestead Bone
Black Fertilizer purchased from Mr.

seven acres oats this Spring. At in-
tervals in the field I omitted the

the fertilizer was sown, after the first

maintained this advantage over the
unfertilized portions throughout the

with fuller heads of grain.,,

"I have used Homestead fertilizer
on both corn and oats and am well
eatiafled; the corn eared up better and
ripened about ten days earlier where

ED WARD WOOD, Ethel, Ontario,

"I tested Homestead Bone Black

The results' were beyond my expecta-

I highly recommend the use of your
