Festive warmth
Clockwise, from bottom left: Ducharme created the elegant
table centrepiece; the dining room dressed for the season,
a festive touch for the bathroom; a lovely adornment for a
wall sconce. (Bonnie Gropp photos)

With a birthday -FT celebrate in
December the festive season has
always been "a big deal" for Nanci
Ducharme.
"I love Christmas and I'm a
shopaholic as far as ornaments and
decorations."
Their two-storey residential home
is a testament not just to that but to
Ducharme's talent for decorating.
Besides a number of Christmas trees
decked out beautifully for the
season, her house is adorned with
garlands, swags and and
centrepieces all created by
Duchanne.
"I get some of my ideas from
books. And if I see something in
stores I will often think that I can go
home and make it myself more
cheaply."
As for the assortment of
Christmas trees, Ducharme said that
after her marriage to Greg they
celebrated with one tree like most
people. But then I had so many
ornaments I got a second. The third
and fourth arrived for much the
same reason.
They also have a small tree in the
master bedroom as well as in the
bedrooms of their children, Evan
and Danielle.
"It's addicting. You buy a little
something and before long you have
way more stuff than you need."
Ducharme says shortly after
Halloween she begins gathering and
creating for that particular year. "I
try to keep changing and making
something new." Many of the
previous year's decorations are
dismantled and re-worked."
She said there is no real theme or
focus to what she does. "I just try to
decorate every room for Christ-
mas."
