Many holiday facets
inspire decorating

For Brenda Sjaarda there are
many facets to the holidays that
inspire her decorating.
The mother of five has a deep
connection to the spiritual part of the
holiday and for that reason the
favourite part of her decorations is
the nativity. However, she is also
enchanted by the lights and glitter..
"I have always decorated my
home. I guess I was inspired by my
mom. Her house always looked
• beautiful. That I decorate is much
more a fact of tradition than it is

The decorating begins typically at
the end of November, and takes
approximately two days.
Married to Bert, Sjaarda get help
decking the halls from children,
Kirsten, Tyson, Austin, Madison and
Quinton. "We put on Christmas
music and trim the tree together. It's
really a family thing."
And while tradition is important,
Sjaarda admits that every year there
are changes in her holiday look. "It's
