Blyth Novices play to mixed results
It's been a busy time with mixed
results for the Blyth Novices.
On Dec. 12 the squad played an
exhibition. match against the Wilds
in London.
Scoring for Blyth in this 4-2 loss
were Ryan Nesbitt and Alex Peters.
It was two big wins this past
weekend for the Brussels Midgets.
The team hosted Listowel AE
Dec. 17 and white-washed their
visitors 11-0. Al Johnston played in
net and posted his first shutout of the
season.
Matt White scored 'both first-
period goals, with assists going to
Andrew McDonald. Nathan Prior
and Tate Stephenson.
On Dec. II Blyth PeeWee Local
League travelled to Tiverton taking
an 8-2 loss against Kincardine.
Goals were scored by Aaron Popp
(unassisted) and Daniel Elliott
assisted by Popp. The goals were
The Blyth Tyke II played
Wingham in recent hockey action. It
was a close game for the two rivals.
Wingham started the scoring with
two goals. Blyth finally came back
with one goal scored by Dawson
Coultes with a pass by Hunter Dale.
Peters assisted on Nesbitt's goal.
Between the pipes for Blyth was
Dylan Bromley.
Dec. 16 was a different story as the
team hosted Zurich. While holding
the visitors to two goals. the Novice
Bulldogs scored nine.
It was a huge second period for the
hosts with five goals scored. Greg
Bowers led the onslaught earning a
hattrick. Also bulging the twine
were Shayne Cochrane and Prior.
Assists went to Chris Jutzi,
Stephenson (two), Andrew
McDonald (two). Adam McClure
(three) and White.
The third period saw the score
jump by four. Goals came from
both scored in the third period.
On Dec. 13 they played a home
game against Seaforth. Blyth won 6-
0.
In the first period Popp scored
within the first two minutes of the
Dustin Treble had an awesome
game in net for the Blyth team, as
did the Wingham goalie.
It was a good game for all players
on both teams.
Blyth travels to Seaforth on
Monday, Dec. 27 for a 5 p.m. game.
Mike VanWyk. Spencer Stevenson
and Peters lit the light for Blyth in
the first period. Ryan Plunkett and
Wyatt Carey assisted on VanWyk's
goal and Peters got help from Carey.
In the second Peters completed a
hattrick. while Nesbitt picked up his
Cochrane, McClure, Scott Phillips
and Cory Chapman. Assists went to
Steve Ropp, Jutzi, Bowers, Jordon
Campbell (two) and White (two).
With Johnston in net again, the
team played Blyth and skated away
with a 6-I victory.
White started the squad off again
in the first, set up by Phillips. Ropp,
with an assist from Jutzi scored to
give the team a 2-0 lead going into
game, assisted by Janneke Bar-
ten.
Second-period goals were scored
by Cody Ducharme, with a hattrick.
Assists were credited to Colton Kerr
and Jordan Bakelaar.
Third-period goals were scored by
Popp (unassisted) and Jordan
Bakelaar with the assist credited to
first of the game. Assists went to
Nesbitt and Braydon Whitfield.
Zurich managed one goal mid-
way through the period.
Peters continued his attack in the
third, scoring another hattrick.
Stevenson earned the assist .on
the second.
Defence continued to do its job in
the middle period, shutting down
their opponents, while offence added
four. Scoring were Bowers,
McDonald. Jutzi and Ropp. Assists
went to Jutzi with two, Bowers,
McClure, Ropp and Cochrane.
Blyth tallied its lone goal in the
final minutes of the third
period.

Great defense came from Shawna
Popp. Ryan Sjaarda, Andrew Hess
and Jeff Plaetzer. Great forward
playing by Loretta Thompson.
Daniel Thompson, Daniel Elliott,
Martin Ellis and Dana Teed. It was a
good game for Andrew Bailey in
net.
Peters's second goal, while Plunkett
and Dalton Richmond set up the
play on the third one.
Nesbitt and Peters then teamed to
set up VanWyk who bulged the
twine. With just two and half
minutes left in the game, Whitfield
and VanWyk passed to Stevenson
who skated in to score Blyth's final
goal.
Zurich got their second and last
goal of the game early in the period.
Dec. 18, the team travelled to
Seaforth and came away with a 4-4
tie.
For his first game out of net,
Bromley contributed with a. goal.
The assist went to Carey. Peters
earned another hattrick.
VanWyk was between the pipes in
this game.
