Court news Judge postpones sentencing for woman Donna Middelkamp of Blyth pled guilty in Wingham's provincial court to defrauding an elderly couple of $9,600 between January and July 30, 2004. According, to attorney for the Crown, James O'Donnell Middelkamp had been employed during that time with Town & Country Support Services, tending to the needs of a couple residing in Blyth. The wife died in June. On July 30, the couple's children, who had been dealing with their mother's funeral and estate, finally discovered that someone had been writing cheques on their parents' account. Duty counsel Lynn Johnston presented a letter stating Middelkamp's remorse and that she is getting help. A pre-sentence report indicated that the accused was trying to get her life back together and had committed the fraud to get out of financial difficulties. Middelkamp, said Johnston, was not in a position to pay the money back at this time. Hunter told Middelkamp to come back Jan. 20 for sentencing. "You'll be going into custody so make the arrangements." Dangerous Driving Paul Sarhan of Hanover pled 'guilty to dangerous driving. O'Donnell said that on May 13, the Wingham police chief met a car going the wrong way down a one- way street. The officer saw the driver go through two. stop signs, without slowing. After the lights were activated on the police car, Sarhan spun the car around and coming abreast of the cruiser, stopped. As the chief moved to get out of the car, Sarhan took off, went through a stop sign, and struck a hydro pole before finally being caught and arrested. The 25-year-old was fined $1,500 and is prohibited from driving for 15 months. He was given nine months to pay the fine. Assault Armand Dugas of Nature Centre Road, Belgrave pled guilty to a charge of break, enter and assault and a charge of failing to comply with a police order. O'Donnell said police were called to a Wingham residence April 11. The victim said Dugas had entered his apartment by going through a window then waited for the victim to return home. When he did, there was a confrontation during which Dugas punched the victim. On April 15, police were called again to the apartment and told that Dugas, who had been ordered to stay away was in the area. He was found nearby and arrested. He was fined $1,000 for the break, enter and assault and $500 for the breach of probation charge. Dugas has nine months to pay the fine. In addition he is on probation for 12 months and must have no contact with the victim. He is also prohibited from owning weapons for five years. Break, enter, theft An RR2, Fullarton man pled guilty to one charge of break, enter and theft and a second charge of breaching a probation order. O'Donnell said that on Aug. 2 a couple was awakened at approximately 1:30 a.m. by an outside noise. They saw two men pushing an ATV from the garage. The husband hollered and the men fled leaving the ATV in the driveway. Police found the accused, Charles Lamb, hiding in a grain field directly across from the house at 4:30 a.m. On July 27, Lamb had been placed on probation for a firearms offense. He has no other criminal conviction. Defence counsel A. Phillips said that medical problems had put financial pressure on Lamb and his family. ."This was , he major motivation behind thiese, offences." He was fined $750 for the break, enter and theft, and $250 for the breach. He was given 90 days to pay the fine. As well Lamb was placed on probation for two years. He must I complete 75 hours of community service work within 12 months of his court date. Marijuana possession Malcolm Lampshire of Kitchener, pled guilty to marijuana possession.
