Early Years group learns numbers/letters Participants in the Ontario Early Years program at Duff's United Church in Walton have been learning their letters and numbers with the help of Mr. Gingerbread Man. Children up to six years and their caregivers, have been learning together while having fun. All programs are free and benefit families by providing quality time together. The Walton group will be having a Christmas party and sing-along this week. In Brussels, the group meets Monday morning from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. in the basement of the library. Their Christmas party will be Monday, Dec. 20. Families are invited to join in at Grey Central School in Ethel on Friday morning, Dec. 17 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. for their Christmas festivities. The Ontario Early Years Program will be taking a Christmas break. Walton's program will be closed .Dec. 22 and Dec. 29. Brussels' will he closed Dec. 27 and Jan. 3 and Ethel's will be closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 31. Everyone is welcome to join in the programs after the break. FROM WALTON H. McClure greets at Duff's Worshippers at Duff's United Church were greeted by Heidi McClure on the third Sunday of Advent. The Advent wreath candle lighting was done by Val and David Pethick. The first three verses of the hymn A Candle is Burning was sung. The senior choir sang Still, a Bach Christmas. Dianne McCallum presented the minute for missions. She told the story of a couple who worked for the mission and service fund in other countries. They travelled across Canada atteqding church, UCW and Presbytery meetings, reporting on hclw wisely the mission and service money is spent. It is used wisely in countries to provide food, ediication, water development, medicine, reforestation to help improve the lives of the poor. Rev. Joan Tuchlinsky's reflection was on the story of Mary. When Mary mound she was with child she broke into song, happy for the new life in her. She knew God was working through her, and that his power wuuld be revealed and that the transformation of the world through the birth of this Baby would begin. God works in unexpected ways. God's mysterious love works in surprising ways, said Rev. Joan. The offering was received by Karen Hoegy and Murray Dennis. A coffee hour was enjoyed after the church service and the Christmas newsletter was available to all. Both the senior and junior choirs of Duff's United Church participated in the Brussels Choral Concert at Melville Presbyterian Church.
