White Gift service at United
Members of the junior and senior
Sunday school classes of Knox
United Church, Belgrave, took part
in the White Gift Service on Sunday
morning. Dec. 5. Organist Elizabeth
Procter provided Christmas music as
people entered the church and were
welcomed by Steve and Patti Nixon.
Marlene Procter, leader of the
Sunday school, welcomed everyone
to the service and asked three young
pianists Jessica Procter, Autumn
The Belgrave Community Seniors
Club hosted its annual Christmas
Dinner on Friday, Dec. 3 in the
Community Centre.

It was a day of celebration on
Saturday as friends and family
gathered to celebrate Ruth
Johnston's 90th birthday at
Belgrave's Knox United Church.
Ruth Brown was born Dec. 8,
1914 in Grey Twp. to Angus and
Amelia Brown. She attened Fulton's
School #8 in Grey.
In 1937 she married Robert F.
Johnston. She had a son, in 1940,
who passed away in infancy, and
one daughter Ruth Marilyn in 1942.
Her family has grown to include two
grandsons and two great-
grandsons.
She worked as a food supervisor
for 22 years and worked in two
restaurants,
Mrs. Johnston, who now lives in
Belgrave, is a member of the
Belgrave Women's Institute, the
WMS and the choir.
Among the special people at the
open house was her daughter.
Musical entertainment was provided
by Freda Johnston, Arnold Bruce,
Mary Coultes and others. Mrs.
Johnston feels she's been blessed by
the help of many neighbours and
friends and the support of Rev. Ethel
Miner Clare
Wightman and Matthew Cottrill to
play Christmas tunes. The lighting
of the Advent candles was done by
Matthew Cottrill. Chris Shiell
offered the prayer.
Following a hymn Heidi Raynard
led in the opening prayer, which was
followed by the senior choir singing
She Walked in the Summer.
The scripture reading was read by
Melanie Pletch after which Trevor
Raynard led in the responsive
welcomed everyone and Rev. Ethel
Miner Clare said. grace. Seventy-
three club members, friends and
guests sat down to a turkey dinner
served by the Freiburger family.

received, which is an offering
towards the sponsoring of a foster
child.
Ben Procter narrated the Sunday
school presentation entitled
Christmas Treasures. The senior
classes brought items out of the
treasure box, and told stories of each
one. Several Christmas hymns were
sung, then the junior classes had
lines to say. They sang Away In A
They were thanked by Mrs. Coultes.
Afternoon entertainment was
provided by Bert and Carol Pepper,
John McDowell and John McIntosh.
They sang seyeral Christmas songs
and were accompanied by the violin,
guitar and keyboard.
Freda Johnston played the piano
as well, for the singing of several
popular Christmas carols.
Winners of the centrepieces made
by Jane Grasby, were Norina Moore,
Lillian Appleby, Jim Hunter,
Florence McArter and Lorraine
Cook. Members and friends brought
many items for the Food Share
program in Wingham.
WMS
meets
The Belgrave WMS held its
meeting on Monday, Nov. 29 at the
home of Ora Bruce.
The Christmas service from the
Glad Tidings was used with
everybody taking part in the
readings. Freda Scott led the service
and Ivy Cloakey read two
scriptures.
The First Noel, Away in a Manger
and God Rest You Merry Gentlemen
were the carols used.
The secretary's report was given
by Margaret Siertsema and the
treasurer's report by Mrs. Cloakey.
Fifty sick and shut-in calls were
recorded.
The roll call was a poem or story
on Christmas. Mrs. Siertsema read
The Season Comes.
The social evening will be on
Dec. .12 at the Women's Institute
Hall.
Rev. Campbell closed with prayer
and the hostess served lunch.
Manger.
The morning offering was
received by Scott Pletch, Mathew
Stevenson, Joyce Vincent and Nancy
Folkard. This was followed by the
Prayers of the People, given by
Mathew Stevenson.
Following the singing of the last
hymn and the benediction, Rev.
Ethel Miner Clare said grace and
lunch and a social time was enjoyed
in the basement of the church.
Mrs. Coultes thanked the
entertainment committee for the
program and wished everyone a
Merry Christmas.
There were five tables of euchre
in play on Wednesday, Nov. 24.
Winners were: high lady, Vaughn
Hunking; second high lady, Mabel
Wheeler; high man, Alf Nichol;
second high man, Richard Moore.
Five tables of euchre were at play
on Wednesday, Dec. 1 in the
Women's Institute Hall.
Winners were: high lady, Viola
Adams; lone hands, Mabel Wheeler;
high man, Ross Taylor; lone hands,
Allan Edgar.
The next euchre is Wednesday,

Jan. 5 at 8 p.m.
On Friday, Nov. 26 there were 12
tables of shoot in play at the
Community Centre. Prizes went to:
Marie McIntosh, high lady; Bev
Hayden, second high lady, Louise
Bosman, most shoots; Norma
Moore, low lady; Lloyd Appleby,
high man; Joanne MacDonald,
second high man; Richard Moore,
most shoots; Mary Wallace, low
man.
The next shoot is Friday, Dec. 10
at 1:30 p.m.
