Local Tyke teams face-off in Brussels
On Saturday, the Brussels and
Blyth Tykes faced-off.
On Nov. 27, the Tykes travelled to
Brussels and finished the game in a
3-3 tie. Kai Heimstra skated in for
the Brussels Bulls to score
unassisted in the first. Thanks to
Blyth's Ashley Higgins the game
was tied going into the second.

Area hosts
The boys volleyball team from
Goderich District Collegiate Institute
made it to the final championship
game during the "AA" Boys
Volleyball OFSAA Championship
held at various locations in Huron.
But after five tough matches, the
victory went to Francis Libermann
Christian High School from
Scarborough.
The two-day event began on Nov.
26 with 20 teams competing from
Dustin Pennington scored
unassisted to put his team ahead with
the only goal scored in the middle
period.
Brussels evened things up with an
early goal in the third, off the stick of
Nic Garnet. .but just five minutes
later, Raynard gave his team a one-
point edge off a play from Connor
Rodger. In the final minutes before
Clinton, Goderich, Kincardine,
Palmerston, Scarborough, • St.
Catharines, Kenora,
Penetanguishene, Odessa, North
Bay, Essex, Ottawa, Burlington,
Etobicoke, Hamilton, Prescott,
Cochrane, StouffvilleWhitby and
Peterborough.
On route to the championship
game, Goderich District Collegiate
Institute defeated Donald A. WilSOn
Secondary School from Whitby,
the buzzer, Brussels' Mitch
Kellington scored for the tie.
There was solid goaltending on
both sides to keep this game close.
The Blyth Dogs went on to enjoy
a big victory in Elma Logan in a
second game this past week.
While shutting out the hosts
through the first, Blyth bulged the
twine three times. Ryan Nesbitt,
Ecole Secondaire De La Salle from
Ottawa, South Grenville District
High School from Prescott and
Essex High School. They also bested
Hamilton District Christian High
School in the quarter-final.
St. Anne's Secondary School
defeated Ecole Secondaire from
Cochrane 25 - 18 and 27 - 25.
St. Anne's then played
Penetanguishene Secondary School,
but lost 25 - 18 both matches.
Chloe Middegaal and Alex Peters
scored. Assists went to Dylan
Bromley, Peters and Trystan Weber.
Nesbitt started the second-period
scoring with an unassisted effort,
which was followed minutes later by
Elma Logan's one and only goal.
With just over a minute before the
buzzer Wyatt Carey got Blyth's sixth
goal unassisted.
St. Anne's had a good comeback
by winning both matches against
Richview Collegiate Institute from
Etobicoke, 25 - 19 and 25 - 15.
In the quarter-final game three, St.
Anne's defeated Norwell District
Secondary School in Palmerston, 25
- 11 in the first match, but lost 25 -
27 after the second. They ended up
taking the victory after winning
match three 15 - 11.
That win moved St. Anne's onto
The Dogs continued their
offensive onslaught scoring three
more in the final .period for an 8-1
victory. Bromley, Middegaal and
Nesbitt, getting his hattrick, each put
one between the pipes. Assists were
by Peters with three, Carey, Weber
and Dalton Richmond.
Solid in net for the visitors was
Matt VanWyk.
the semi-finals wIfere they played
South Grenville District High School
from Prescott, losing 12 - 25 in the
first match, but they won the second
25 - 17. The tie-breaking game was
won by South Grenville 15 - 13.
In the semi-finals, Goderich
defeated Penetanguishene 25 - 22,
but lost the second match 25 - 18.
The final matchwas a victory
for Goderich as they won 25 -
22.
