Nurse educator speaks to group The Brussels, Morris and Grey Diabetic Group met on Wednesday, Nov. 17 with 13 in attendance. The meeting opened with a welcome and reading by co- ordinator, Nelva Scott, who then introduced the guest speaker Linda Kieffer, diabetic nurse educator. She spoke on the diabetes epidemic pointing out that it is the seventh leading cause of death. She spoke on the new guidelines for diagnosis and management of the diabetic. Some of the reason for the increase in numbers is that people are eating way too much and working far less. There are also better screening methods. Even younger children are being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Treating diabetics, with both direct and indirect symptoms, is costing Canada about 10 billion yearly. Some of the symptoms of diabetes are: thirst, hunger. night urination, There was a good turnout for Morning Star Lodge's casserole supper. Eight tables of card players remained for euchre. Winners were: door prize, Bill fatigue and changes in weight. Some people have been diagnosed when they were being treated for yeast infections, slow healing infections, vision changes and even itchy skin. If diagnosed, you should attend diabetic educations classes. Treatment begins with blood monitoring, safety issues, a Medic Young; share-the-wealth, Mel McCutcheon, Sandra Cameron; high lady, Viola Adams; high man, Ken Barbour; low lady, Anna Cunningham; low man, Alvin Alert bracelet and support groups such as the BM&G Diabetic group.
