(Advance Times photo) Preparing hearts for season theme of UCW meeting Police RIDE program begins The meeting of the Londesborough UCW was held on Monday. Nov. 15 beginning with dessert. The women in attendance were shown the Christmas tray favours already prepared for Clinton Public Hospital. Preparing hearts as the Christmas season approaches was the theme for the devotional service that evening prepared by Florence Snell, Lynda Horbanuik and Bev Riley. As one prepares for the miracle of Christmas one should never forget the true meaning of the season and give thanks for the tokens of God's love. Isaiah 9: 6, 7 speaks of the coming of Christ. A story was read of last minute Christmas shopping and the sharing of the pieces of a nativity set. A small child, remembering the words of a Sunday school teacher, reminded the adults that Jesus lives in our hearts. President Laura Scott gave notice of an invitation to the Blyth UCW Christmas potluck on Thursday, Nov. 25. Paul and/or Lorie Hagerman, missionaries from Jamaica, will be featured speakers that evening. Help for the open house at the manse. on Sunday, Nov. 28 was arranged. The holiday season is here and the Ontario Provincial Police want to remind the- motoring public of the danger of mixing alcohol with driving. From Nov. 26 to Jan. 2 the OPP will team up with police services across the province for the annual Festival RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign. Impaired driving remains the leading criminal cause of death in Canada. OPP Officers will be out in an effort to remove the threat of the impaired driver, and curb the death toll on Ontario roads. Last year. during the five-week RIDE program officers stopped 511.416 vehicles at roadside checkpoints. A total of 416 persons were charged with criminal code alcohol-related offences and 955 12- hour licence suspensions were issued. Officers also issued 402 of the 90-day administrative drivers licence suspensions. For every, 373 vehicles checked at R4DE locations, one driver was either charged with _an impaired driving related change or was issued a 12-hour licenCe suspension. Unfortunately during the campaign last year, officers investigated 40 fatal collisions in which 50 people lost their lives. Seven of these- fatal collisions were alcohol related. OPP officers will be doing their part to remove impaired drivers from, our roadways, please do yours by not drinking and driving. FARM SAFETY FACT Did you know?
