Local students' work featured at art exhibit
It was definitely a kids'
night to shine at Elizabeth's
Art Gallery in Goderich on
Saturday evening. Children
from all over Huron had been
invited to enter art work on
the theme of Things I Like To
Do. Fifty of the entries were
chosen to be professionally
mounted for the exhibit.
The children, their proud
parents, siblings and
grandparents were present at
a first-class gallery opening
complete with an ensemble
from Huron Strings.
The artists wore tags
identifying themselves as
exhibitors, and hot chocolate
as the beverage of choice
while . the nibbles table
offered cookies.
There was an air of
excitement and pride at the
event.
Sponsors. of the show
included the Huron Kids'
Booster Club, Elizabeth's Art
Gallery and The Ontario
Ministry of Citizenship,
Culture, Tourism and
Recreation.
Local students taking part
included Arden Coultes,
Chance Smith, Rachel Cook,
Autumn Wightman, Emily

THE EDITOR,
On behalf of the Brussels
Agritultural SoCiety, 1 want
to express our sincere
appreciation for the $500
contribution that the catering
group made to us following
the recent dance.
As you know, the midway
that came to the fair this fall
barely met their own
expenses, but have agreed to
return next year if we would
give them a $500 deposit. I

We hope that the residents
of Huronlea and Parkwood
Hospital veterans wing are
enjoying the handiwork of
many of our local people.
We thought kneelaps would
he nice for those who are
sitting around and finding it
cool on their legs. The
request went out through this
column and the response was
amazing.
The Branch collected 36
kneelaps that were either knit
or crocheted from , 10
different donators.
There were 20 kneelaps
presented to the veterans'
care director of Parkwood
Hospital in early November.
They will be distributed to
those in need and will
become the property of
Parkwood..
will recommend to the fair
board members at the annual
meeting that this donation be
used to sponsor the midway
for 2005.
On a personal note, both
Ted and I are overwhelmed
by the generosity of this
hardworking group not only
to support the fair, but their
ongoing financial support of
community activities and in
particular the B MG
recreation board's needs.
On Remembrance Day, the
remaining 16 kneelaps were
presented to Huronlea with
Comrade Frank Cardiff
receiving the first one. The
staff at Huronlea will
distribute the rest to those in
need and the kneelaps will be
the property of Huronlea.
Four comrades attended the
single darts competition in
Exeter on Saturday. Hoping
to be in the ' top 10 and
advance to District darts were
comrades Ron Schmidt (2)
and Bob Richardson. Having
a good day were Margo
Richardson and John
Harrison.
Looking ahead it's just four
weeks until Christmas. The
annual potluck and gift
exchange will be Dec. 17 and
the Christmas draw is Dec.
18.
Larger communities raise
taxes for such things, but
Brussels is fortunate in
having such dedicated and
generous volunteers.
They may not often hear it.
but they should know that
they are always appreciated
and that they set. an example
for the rest of us. thanking
them again for their gift.

Ann Huffman,
