Songs of the season
Four local choirs competed in the carolling contest at the
Lighting of the Lights ceremony in Blyth on Friday evening.
Here the Blyth United Church choir lend their voices to sing
the songs of the season. Other choirs were the Blyth
United Church youth choir, the Blyth Christian Reformed

Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, Nov. 21 was Fred
Hakkers. Ushers were Fred Hakkers
and Shirley and Earl Fyfe. Guest
musician was Margaret Kai.
The senior men's choir sang
Jerusalem.
Rev. Eugen Bannerman read the
scripture from Luke 10: 25-37. Psalm
4 was led by Aleisha Dale with the
choir singing the refrain.
Rev. Bannerman's message to the
adults was The Greatest Canadian —
Tommy Douglas. Rev. Bannerman
.called into CBC and voted for the
late Tommy Douglas as the greatest
Canadian. Douglas introduced 100
new bills to help the people of
Saskatchewan. He had watched the
poor people in Saskatchewan during
the Depression and drought while he
was minister of a Weyburn Baptist
and experience what Christmas
was like at the last turn of the
century. A visit to Doon comes
complete with a horse-drawn
wagon ride, hot apple cider, carol
singing in the Freeport Church and
Father Christmas.
Church from 1903-1934 and thought
politics was a way he could help
them and others across Canada. One
of Tommy Douglas's nomination
speeches was that he knew it was not
customary for ministers to take an
active part in the affairs of the nation
but he also remembered that there
was One who went out doing good so
that the common people heard him.
Dec. 12 is confirmation Sunday,
Dec. 19 is the Christmas concert and
candlelight service.
