Avon Maitland board releases EQAO results
Recent results reveal that Avon
Maitland students have shown
considerable improvement in the
Education Quality and
Accountability _Office (EQAO)
standardized testing for Grades 3
and 6.
A press release from the Avon
Maitland District School Board
(AMDSB), said the provincial
standard for students was a level
three or higher for the reading,
writing and mathematics categories.
It said the most significant level of
improvement was seen in Grade 3
mathematics as the percentage of
students reaching the standard rose
to 70 per cent from last year's 54 per
cent. In the seven years of testing the
number of successful Grade 3
students has doubled.
Fifty-five per cent of Grade 3
students reached the reading
standard, which is up nine per cent
from last year, and 56 per cent
reached the writing standard, a six
per cent increase.
For Grade 6 students, 57 per cent
reached the reading standard which
is a four per cent increase over last
year.
The writing standard was down
one per cent this year, leaving 49 per
cent of students reaching the writing
standard, but there was a five per
cent increase in the mathematics
standard with 56 per cent of students
meeting the standard.
At Blyth Public School, 24 Grade
3 students participated in the writing
test. Fifty-four per cent achieved
level three and eight per cent
achieved higher.
There were 15 Grade 6 students
taking the writing test, of these 27
per cent had achieved the standard
while 13 per cent reached a higher
mark.
Nineteen Grade 3 students from
Brussels Public School took the
writing test with 53 per cent
achieving the standard and 11 per
cent achieving higher.
Only 28 per cent of the 18 Grade 6
students achieved the standard.
Twenty Grade 3 students from
East Wawanosh Public School
particpated in the tests and 45 per
cent had reached the provincial
standard while 50 per cent of the 20
Grade 6 students achieved it and 15
per cent were higher.
Forty-six per cent of Grey Central
Public School's 24 Grade 3 students
achieved the writing standard and 27
per cent of the 30 Grade 6 students
met the standard while seven per
cent had higher marks.
Of the 15 Hullett Central Public
School Grade 3 students, 67 per cent
reached the province's writing
standard. Thirteen per cent achieved
higher. Fifty per cent of the school's
26 Grade 6 students also achieved
the standard with four per cent
making better marks.
Thirty-eight per cent of Blyth
Grade 3 students met the level three
standard for reading, while 40 per
cent of its Grade 6 students met the
required mark and 13 per cent
exceeded the expectations
Fifty-eight per cent of 19 Grade 3
Brussels students and 28 per cent of
18 Grade 6 students reached the
standard level with six per cent
making better marks.
For 20 Grade 3 students at East
Wawanosh, 70 per cent met the
standard while 60 per cent of 20
Grade 6 students did and 40 per cent
exeeded expectations.
Twenty-five per cent of Grade 3
students from Grey Central reached
the standard as well as 57 per cent

Hullett Central had 67 per cent of
its Grade • 3 students meet the
standard and 33 per cent had
achieved higher. Thirty-eight per
cent of the Grade 6 students reached
the standard while eight per cent
achieved a higher score.
Forty-two per cent of Grade 3
Blyth students met the requirement
level in mathematics while four per
cent achieved higher. For Grade 6
students, 67 per cent met the
standard and 13 per cent achieved
higher.
Fifty-eight per cent of Grade 3
students from Brussels achieved the
standard and five per cent were
higher. Six per cent of the Grade 6
class achieved a level four while 33
per cent achieved the standard level
three.
Of East Wawanosh's Grade 3
students, 70 per cent met the
standard while 10 per cent achieved
higher. Seventy-five of the Grade 6
students achieved level three and 15
per cent achieved level four.
Twenty-one per cent of Grey
Central's Grade 3 students and 40
per cent of its Grade 6 students
achieved the standard.
Fifty-three per cent of Hullett's
Grade 3 students -achieved a level
four standard and 47 per cent
achieved the level three. For the
Grade 6 students, 58 per cent
achieved the level three standard.
