Obituaries Solemn occasion Individuals as well as representatives from government and local organizations took part in the placing of wreaths during the annual Remembrance Day service at Memorial Hall in Blyth last Thursday. (Keith Roulston photo) PIER (PETER) SALVERDA Pier (Peter) Salverda of Hullett Twp. passed away on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004 at Seaforth Community Hospital. He was in his 80th year. Peter Salverda was the beloved husband of Geertje (Gaye) van Lingen. He was the dear father of Clara and Sam de Vries, Exeter; Edward and Mary Salverda, RR1, Londesborough, John and Arlene Salverda, RR 1, Londesborough and Nancy and Jack Lubbers, RR4, Walton. He was the loving grandfather to 14 grandchildren and 18 great- grandchildren. Mr. Salverda is survived by two sisters Klaasje Landgerak, Holland and Helen Schikker, Chatham and two brothers Mike and his wife Joann, Bayfield and' Ed and his wife Ida, Londesborough. He was predeceased by his Heartl. parents Edward and Betty Sal- verda.. Friends were received at the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home, 87 .Goderich St. W., Seaforth on Monday, Nov. 15 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral services were held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. Pallbearers were Brian Salverda, Craig Salverda, Nicholas Lubbers, Dave de Vries, Rob de Vries and Peter Petrou. Flowerbearers were Laura Salverda, Dan Lubbers and Denise de Vries. Interment was at Burns Cemetery, Hullett Twp. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society and are appreciated by the family. Continued formpage 2 Branch 218 following the church service for a light lunch and Comradeship. At 2 p.m. the comrades gathered at Huronlea to conduct the Remembrance Day service for the residents with Padre Joan Golden. Rev. Joan conducted a Remembrance Day candle lighting and gave a reading by Aaron Richmond during the service. Poppies were placed on the Huronlea wreath during the service and a silence was observed. Approximately 40 or more residents appreciated the service, then enjoyed a light lunch and visit with Comrades following the service. There was been a good turnout to darts the last two weeks and more are always welcome. On Nov. 4 the winners were Lisa Glanville and John Harrison. Coming in second were Norm Dobson, Cassie Bootzin and Sandra Josling. High shots were thrown by John, 120 and Cassie, 164. On Nov. 11 the first-place finishers were CaSsie and John. A tie for second between Grace Smith and Jim Brown and Lisa Glanville and Sandra Josling was decided in a playoff with Lisa and Sandra as winners. High shots were by John, 121 and Sandra, 132 who also had high start of 120. Darts start at 8 p.m. The Friday night supper of shepherd's pie only had a few attend. This week is ham and scalloped potatoes. There were 100 diners present for the fish fry held on Saturday. The fry crew included Comrades Greg Wilson, Murray Lowe, Bob Bridge, Gary Pipe, Lisa Glanville and Norm Dobson.
