WI president Kathy Bridge, said visitors brought greetings from Guelph, the Municipality of Huron East and cards from other WI branches. After a brown-bag auction and a WI history presentation, sandwiches and cake were enjoyed among the chatter of friends catching up. Majestic WI marks 65th anniversary Congrats It was a day of laughter and fun as members gathered to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Majestic WI at the Brussels Mennonite Fellowship on Nov. 18. The group enjoyed sandwiches, cake and a motivational speaker as well as a brief history on the WI. (Elyse DeBruyn photo) members arrived to show their support of the special celebration including the only charter member Leona Connelly, who has been involved with Majestic since it restarted in 1939. Several life-members, a member who has done a lot for the WI over the years and has held many board positions, were also in atten- dance. Over the years Majestic has donated 34 comfort quilts to the By PRO Doris McCall The Majestic Women's Institute of Brussels celebrated its 65th anniversary on Wednesday, Nov. 10. The meeting was held at the Mennonite Fellowship Hall. Neighbouring Institutes and former members and friends attended. The meeting opened with singing the Ode and repeating the Mary Stewart Collect in unison. The president, Kathy Bridge, welcomed the guests and gave a reading. A thank you letter was read from the Children's Aid for a gift which was sent last month. Congratulatory cards from various institutes were read by the secretary, Leona Armstrong. Lucy Hesse brought greetings from Huron East District. The next meeting is to be on Wednesday, Dec. 8. Membets and friends are to be at the library at 11:45 a.m. to go to the Walton Inn for dinner. Members are asked to bring donations for the shut-in boxes to this meeting. Majestic is in charge of the birthday party at Huronlea on Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. UFO day is to be at Kathy Bridge's -home on Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. Edna McLellan introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Keith Stoltz of Grey and Brussels Fire Departments, made several cancer hats for cancer patients who have lost their hair and started the Ida Evans Citizenship awards. These awards are presented to one student from Brussels Public School and one fiorn Grey Central Public School. , Bridge said the award was started 'after Ida Evans had left money to Majestic when she passed away. After some discussion, members thought it would be nice to put the Listowel. His theme was laughter. His favourite saying is "Live everyday like it is your last — and one day you will be right." He told us many interesting stories. Kathy Bridge thanked the speaker and presented him with a gift. Debbie Seili, representing her husband, the mayor, presented the Institute with a congratulatory certificate for 65 years of service. Jean Fraser gave a splendid historical summary of the previous work carried out by Majestic WI. money back into the community, so they "started with the young folks." She said Majestic actually started in the early 1900s, but was disbanded for unknown reasons. Then in 1939 community members decided to get the organization started again. She explained members decided to call the Brussels WI "Majestic" because the king and queen visited Canada in 1939. Mrs. Hesse gave a Remembrance Day reading followed by a two- minute silence in memory of the fallen comrades. A surprise auction was then held with Mrs. Hesse as auctioneer. The proceeds are to go to the Children's Hospital of Western Ontario in London. Leona Connelly, who is the only charter member of the Majestic WI, cut the anniversary cake. Pastor Brent Kipfer asked the blessing before lunch.
