Tony winner joins Stratford Festival company
Tony Award winner Amanda
Plummer, daughter of Festival
alumni Christopher Plummer and
Tammy Grimes, will join the
Festival's 2005 acting company to
play Joan of Arc in Jean Anouilh's
The Lark, artistic director Richard
Monette announced Oct. 19,
Plummer, who won a Tony Award
in 1982 for her portrayal of Agnes in
Agnes of God, was also nominated
for a Tony the same year for her
portrayal of Jo in A Taste of Honey.
She received another Tony
nomination in 1987 for playing Eliza
Doolittle in Pygmalion.
She won an Emmy in 1992 for her
portrayal of Lusia Weiss in the TV
movie Miss Rose White and another
in 1996 as Outstanding Guest
Actress in a Drama Series (The
Outer Limits).
She has appeared in many films,
including Pulp Fiction, The Fisher
King, Butterfly Kiss and A Simple
Wish.

The Lark opens at the Festival
Theatre on Aug. 11.
William Hutt will rejoin the
Festival company after two seasons
with Soulpepper Theatre in Toronto
for his 39th Stratford season to play
Prospero in The Tempest, which will
open Monday, May 30 at the Festival
Theatre as the gala kick-off to the
Festival's 53rd season.
Hutt, the leading actor of Canadian
theatre, was a member of the original
Stratford company. He has been
invested as a Companion of the
Order of Canada, was the first
recipient of the Governor General's
Lifetime Achievement Award,
English Stage, and also received the
Shakespeare Globe's Sam Anamaker
Award for outstanding contribution
to the world of Elizabethan and
Jacobean theatre.
Earlier this year, he received a
Dora Award for Outstanding
Performance by a male in a principal
role as Spooner in No Man's Land.
Rod Beattie returns for his 15th
season to play Walt Wingfield in the
sixth Wingfield show by Dan
Needles, Wing field's. Inferno, at the
Tom Patterson Theatre from June I
to Aug. 14.
The sounds of music will return to
the Old Town Hall in the lakeside
community of Southampton when
the Bruce County Museum and
Archives and Ontario Power
Generation present the seventh
season of Candlelight Music.
Continuing until Dec. 19 the
Candlelight Music Series will be
held Sunday afternoons at 3 p.m.
Candlelight Music showcases
performers from across Bruce
County and features both vocal and
instrumental groups. This year's
performances are: Nov. 7,
Turnerbridge; Nov. 14, Huron
Handbells; Nov. 21, Jubal's
daughters; Nov. 28, Bruce Brass
Quintet; Dec. 5, Kincardine Brass
Band; Dec. 12, G.C. Huston
Community Concert Band with
guest soloist Sandy Lee Lindsay and
December 19, The Westmen.
Billed by the museum as a friend
raiser, Candlelight Music is offered
to the community by donation.
Proceeds are split 50 per cent for the
performers and 50 per cent for the
museum. The museum's portion will
be used to help offset the costs of
sound equipment for the new theatre
in the expanded museum, which
opens this coming July.
The Old Town Hall in
Southampton is wheelchair
accessible and the museum will have
a staff person on site to assist with
the operation of the elevator.
"We are very pleased that the
Town of Saugeen Shores has
generous offered us use of the Old
Town Hall once again this year,"
said Barbara Ribey, director/curator
of the museum. "We are looking
forward to 2005 when we can host
7th season of Candlelight Music
underway at Southhampton
