Haunted games
Ghosts, goblins and ghouls roamed Brussels Public School last Friday as students jumped
into the spirit of Halloween by dressing up in fun and creative costumes. To put everyone in
the mood for some trick-or-treating, the students council held a Halloween games party which
had everything from face painting to bowling. Trying to remember which bowl the chocolate
bar was under is Natasha Haldane (right) as Brianne Wheeler and Thomas Johnston mix up
the bowls, making the game a little more challenging. (Elyse DeBruyn photo)

Citizen editor
Scott Tousaw of the Huron County
planning department attended the
Nov. 1 meeting of North Huron
council to update them on the
activities of the department over the
past year.
The official plans are on schedule
and "rolling out" for the county, said
Tousaw. "We are ready to start
Goderich so with it we will be at
some stage of the official plans right
across the county."
This has been the primary project
right now for the staff, he said.
With groundwater and nutrient
management being such big issues
Tousaw said there was concern
about how to address water. The
county put together water protection
steering committee which has met
three times.
"It seems to be going well," said
Tousaw. "There ;s a funding
proposal in the works and we're
looking at a septic system loan
program."
The county is still hoping to
develop a web system for
geographic information, but have
been held up because the funding
program was closed for a time.
Tousaw stated that should it become
available the county contribution
towards the project would be 30 per
cent of the dollars spent.
Regarding waste management,
Tousaw said North Huron council is
"more up to speed" than any other
municipality because of the work
being done with the county on the
future of the Wingham landfill site
capacity.
Economic development is another
area on which the planning
department is focussing. Tousaw
spoke of the Huron Manufacturing
Association. "We now have an
industry-led association looking out
for the interests of manufacturing in
the county."
"Most people are surprised to
learn that there are 175
manufacturers in the county. It really
is a vibrant sector of Huron."
Tousaw also said there has been -a
desire to see a county-wide
economic development plan. "This
is something that could be positive
for next year."
The planning application fees are
going to be reviewed and anew
schedule will hopefully be
recommended in 2005.
