THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2004. PAGE 17. E. Babcock returned as Blyth BA president Eleanor Babcock was returned as president for 2004-2005 when the Blyth Business Association held its annual meeting and dinner at the Blyth Legion, Oct. 26. Joining Babcock on the executive are Luann Taylor as vice-president, Lorna Fraser as secretary and Donna Longman as treasurer. Kevin Falconer of the Blyth and District Fire Department presented trophies for the best decorated windows during this summer's Fire Fighters Association of Ontario convention to The Village Barber for first place, Blyth Apothecary for second and Luann's Country Flowers for third. Falconer said he is also a member of the board of directors of the provincial group and often has people tell him how amazed they are that a small town like Blyth can accomplish so much. Recently with a meeting being help in Teeswater seven firefighters stayed in Blyth because of their good feelings about the village, he said. There was more Blyth-boosting in a report by North Huron clerk- administrator John Stewart on the prospects for Blyth playing host for 1,000 campers for seven or eight days at Campvention 2006. During a visit this summer, the organizers for the campout were really impressed by the spirit of Blyth, Stewart said, and though no decision has been made. he felt the village had gone from a distant second to Markham to the leading candidate for the event. "My gut feeling is this was a group of people who came because their arm was twisted," Stewart said. "But they were amazed at what they found." Those showing the delegation around the village explained that while Blyth is small and doesn't have a standing infrastructure to handle big events, ,things are accomplished by many groups and individuals working together. The delegation was impressed they could walk to stores from the campsite and the Greenway Trail was nearby. They toured stores and Bainton's Old Mill and the Emergency Services Training Centre. Stewart said negotiations are ongoing and there's no assurance Blyth will win the competition but he feels very good about the outcome. In other business, BBA members voted to hold quarterly breakfast meetings rather than monthly meetings. The next meeting will be Walton 4-11 Horse By Ashley Casemore Walton 4-H Club had its fifth meeting of the season, Oct. 5 at Waneta Leishman's farm. They learned the do's and don'ts for a safe horse-friendly barn. Afterwards, the club moved to the Nov. 30 at U-niquely-ME Café and Gifts. The group plans a "Lighting of the Lights" kick-off to Christmas Nov. 19. The Blyth and Area Christmas Weekend will be held on Dec. 4 including a movie for children, free skating, a visit from Santa and a chili cook-off. Club meets house to warm up. Homework was ti design a dream barn, (unlimited budget).
