The two teams faced off in Brussels Saturday afternoon. (Vicky Bremner photo) Novices lose to Minto It was a great team effort for the Brussels Novices when they faced Minto. Oct. 29, but not enough to earn them a win. Brody TenPas led the scoring for the home team with a goal in each period for a hattrick. With Minto up by two in the first, Brock McLean skated in unassisted to bring his team within one. Five minutes later, TenPas lit the light for his first goal to tie it. Unfortunately, a late period goal by Minto put them up by one to go into the second. Two quick goals by the visitors early in the middle period increased the lead, but Tanner Cardiff handed The Brussels Crusaders have been playing decent hockey lately however third-period collapse has been killing the team. On Oct. 22 the team hosted Clinton and at the end of the second the team was trailing 3-2. Kevin Collins, unassisted and Darryl Houston, assisted by Tyler Campbell and Brad Beuermann had scored for Brussels. Clinton scored three third-period goals for a 6-2 final score. The following night the team travelled to Thornbury and again trailed 3-2 going into the third. This night, Georgian Bay would score two third-period goals enroute to a 5-2 win. Cody McCarthy scored both Brussels goals with 'assists going to Corey Campbell, Grant Jarvis and T. Campbell with two. This past Friday, Oct.29. the team hosted Hensall and was tied 2-2 after two periods of play. Brussels even managed to have a 3-2 lead midway through the period until a four-goal outburst by Hensall ended in a 6-3 Hensall win. off to TenPas, who slid one past the goalie, making the score 5-3 for the visitors. , Minto struck first blood in the third period, but TenPas bulged the twine for a third time to cancel it. McLean earned the assist. The visitor's goalie managed to thwart any further Brussels attack, despite solid efforts from Lexi Smith and Taylor Higgins. Though Bryce Armstrong and Reece McArter did a great job defending goalie Anthony Vader, who made several great saves throughout the game, the visitors snuck another three into the net before the buzzer. Brussels goalscorers were Collins, assisted by Andrew Tait; T. Campbell, assisted by McCarthy and Brett Fischer and Corey Campbell assisted by Josh Beuermann and Tait. The team travels to Durham on Friday night and to Wingham for a Saturday night game. CLASSIFIEDS small ads BIG deals The Brussels Bantam Girls started their season off on a winning streak. They travelled to Kincardine on Oct. 19 for their first game. It was a slow start but they finally got on the board with three seconds left in the first period thanks to a goal from Bridget Blake, assisted by Trista Deitner. Halfway through the second period T. Deitner scored with assists going to Morgan Deitner and Jodi McIntosh. Once the third period started there was no stopping Brussels. Twenty- five seconds into it Ashley Sholdice scored with assists going to Cplleen Aitchison and Lindsay Watson. Three minutes later McIntosh added a goal to the Brussels' lead assisted by Morgan Deitner. Not long after Aitchison popped one in the net with assists from Kristen McArter and The Blyth Novices enjoyed an 8-2 romp over a visiting Wingham squad when they faced off in hockey action Oct. 28. The win was the third in a row for the home team. Ryan Nesbitt started the scoring in the first with an unassisted effort. Spencer Stevenson, with an assist from Wyatt Carey and Braydon Whitfield put Blyth up by two less than half a minute later. The The Blyth Dynamite Black PeeWee broomball team won their first two games of the season this past week. The team travelled to Seaforth Wednesday, Oct. 27 for their opener and won 5-0. Jessica Kuik got Blyth on the scoreboard first with a great pass from Brent Drost. The defence played well and managed to keep the ball in the opposing end for most of the game. Nadine Otten scored the next goal with a cross ice pass from Derek Logtenberg. Drost scored the third goal after Kuik gave him a pass from Chelsey McLellan. Brussels would score again with Jory Uyl taking the honours with assists from Blake and Lacey NcArter. The last goal of the game would come from Sholdice with assists from Watson and Uyl. Brussels left Kincardine with a 7- 0 win. The squad then headed to Mount Forest on Oct. 25. It was a scoreless first period but with five minutes left in the second, Sholdice finally put Brussels on the scoreboard with an assist from K. McArter. Less than a minute later M. Deitner scored a goal from the point with an assist going to McIntosh. Thirty seconds later McLellan scored her first goal of the game with an assist going to Aitchison. Three minutes into the third period M. Deitner scored yet another goal VanWyk brothers each popped one between the pipes. Matthew and Alex Peter set up the play for Michael, while Dylan Bromley and Michael returned the favour for Matthew. With just two minutes left in the first, Stevenson lit the light for a second time giving Blyth a 5-0 lead going into the second . Wingham only managed to get one past goalie Dalton Carey in the next behind the net. . The final two goals came on breakaways from Laura Dykstra and Drost. On Saturday the Mildmay Black HaWks came to town where Blyth once again came out on top with a from the point with the assist going to Sholdice. McLellan scored her second of the game with the assist from Watson. Brussels finished off the game with unassisted goals from Laura Bowers and McLellan for a 7-0 win. Brussels then faced Ripley for the home opener on Saturday, Oct. 30. The hosts were looking for another win and with eight minutes left in the first, L. McArter scored with an assist from McIntosh. Two minutes later Sholdice scored with an assist from Watson. Brussels thought goaltender Brianne Wheeler was going to get her third shutout, but with only one minute and 39 seconds left in the game Ripley scored, giving a final score of Brussels, two, Ripley, one. Brussels plays Mount Forest at home on Nov. 13. period, then another in the third. Though Blyth was held back through• the second, a solid three- goal final period brought their total to eight. Alex Peters scored two with help from Trystan Weber on both and Stevenson. Nesbitt and Bromley set up the play for Michael VanWyk to skate in and score his second of the game. The Novices are on home ice Thursday at 6:30 p.m. score of 2-0. Both Blyth goals were scored in the first period with long ice passes from Sydney Otten to Drost. • Goalie Courtney Bos had another strong game in net and recorded her second shutout.
