Brussels Livestock report
3,758 head of cattle on offer at sale
Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending Oct.
22 were 3,758 head of cattle, 461
lambs and goats. On Tuesday the fed
steers and heifers sold on a steady
market. Choice steers and heifers
sold $75 to $80 with sales to $90.
Second-cut steers and heifers sold
$72 to $74. The cows also traded
steady.
On Thursday the veal sold at
prices steady to last week while the
lambs sold $4 to $5 higher. On
Friday the calves traded at prices $4
to $5 higher while the yearlings sold
$1 to $2 higher.
There were 689 steers on offer.
Jim Howatt, Londesborough, con-
signed one gold steer weighing
1,290 lbs. which sold for $90. His
overall offering of thirty-three steers
averaged 1,429 lbs. selling for an
average price of $79.93. Jim Wilson,
Lucknow, consigned twenty-two
steers averaging 1.414 lbs. which
sold for an average price of $80.47
with his top' two red steers averaging
1.463 lbs, selling for $89.25. Thirty-
seven steers consigned by Don
McAlpine, Ailsa Craig, averaged
1,483 lbs. selling for an average
price of $80.34 with his top limousin
steer weighing 1.460 lbs. selling for
$88.
Ivan Martin, Linwood, consigned
four limousin steers averaging 1,168
lbs. which sold to Dominion Meat
Packers for $84. His overall offering
of nine steers averaged 1.209 lbs.

ing 1.250 lbs. which sold for $82.

with his top limousin steer weighing
1,410 lbs. selling for $85.

consigned one charolais steer weigh-
ing 1,370 lbs. which sold for $82.75.
His overall offering of thirteen steers
averaged 1,481 lbs. selling for an
average price of $75.37. Forty-three
steers consigned by Stan Francis,
Kirkton, averaged 1,461 lbs. selling
for an average price of $76.56 with
his top limousin steer weighing
1,365 lbs. selling to Holly Park Meat
Packers for $87.50. One limousin
steer consigned by Bob Rice, Staffa,
weighed 1,450 lbs. which sold for
$87.25. His overall offering of twen-
ty-nine steers averaged 1.495 lbs.

average price of $73.53 with his top
three black heifers averaging 1,248
lbs. selling to Ryding Regency for
$75.50. Eleven heifers consigned by
Kevin Stewardson, Wyoming, aver-
aged 1,305 lbs. selling for an aver-
age price of $72.98 with his top two
red heifers averaging 1,302 lbs. sell-
ing for $77.75.
There were 276 cows on offer. D I
and D2 cows sold $20 to $30; D3,
$15 to $20; D4, $10 to 15; shell
cows, $5 to $8. Drennan Farms,
Dungannon, consigned three hol-
stein cows averaging 1,703 lbs.
which sold for an average price of
$21.59 with sales to $25. Five charo-
lais cows consigned 'by Alan R.
MacRae, Teeswater, averaged 1,230
lbs. selling for an average price of
$22.41 with sales to $25. John and
Beth Ferrier, Perth, consigned ten
beef cows averaging 1,381 lbs.
which sold for an average price of
$20.55 with their top red cow weigh-
ing 1,405 lbs. selling for $24.50.
There were 25 bulls on offer sell-
ing $18 to $25 with sales to $35.50.
Norm Hossfeld, Hanover, consigned
one limousin bull weighing 1,655
lbs. which sold to Dominion Meat
Packers for $35.50. One limousin
bull consigned by James R.
Morrison, Gowanstown, weighed
1,810 lbs. which sold to Levinoff
Meat -Packers for $25.
There were 138 head of veal on
offer. Beef sold $100 to $114; good
holstein, $95 to $105 with sales to
$113.50; medium holstein, $80 to
$95; plain and heavy holstein, $50 to
$70. Peter Van Sickle, Teeswater,
consigned one black veal steer
weighing 670 lbs. which sold to
Newmarket Meat Packers for $114.
One holstein veal steer consigned by
Mark Pfeffer, Clifford, weighed 620
lbs. selling to Newmarket Meat
Packers for $113.50. His overall
offering of three holstein veal steers
averaged 592 lbs. selling for an aver-
age price of $109.27. Robt. Weppler,
Ayton, consigned one blonde veal
-heifer weighing 570 lbs. which sold
to Holly Park Meat Packers for
$110. His overall offering of seven
veal heifers averaged 711 lbs. selling
for an average price of $86.37.

Top quality stocker heifers, 300 -
399 lbs., sold $73 to $100; 400 - 499
lbs., $66 to $96; 500 - 599 lbs.,

$87.75; 700 - 799 lbs., $63.50 to
$86.50; 800 - 899 lbs., $73 to $91;
900 lbs. and over, $73 to $93.50.
There were 452 stockers on offer
at the vaccinated calf and yearling
sale on Monday, Oct. 18. All weights
and classes of stockers sold on a
good active trade with the results
listed as follows.
Steers, under 400 lbs., sold $77 to
$118; 400 - 499 lbs., $95 to $112.50;
500 - 599 lbs., $80.50 to $112.50;
600 - 699 lbs, $86.75 to $97; 700 -
799 lbs., $81 to $93.50; 800 - 899
lbs., $79.75 to $90.75; 900 - 1,000
lbs., $88.25.
Heifers under 300 lbs., sold $61 to
$110; 300 -,399 lbs.., $72 to $94.50;
400 - 499 lbs., $66 to $98; 500 - 599
lbs., $79 to $99.50; 600 - 699 lbs.,
$76 to $84; 700 - 799 lbs., $79 to
$86.25; 800 - 899 lbs., $73.25; 900
lbs. and over, $75.75.
