Marilyn Broadfoot of RR5, Clinton.
In presenting the award,
Stalenhoef called Broadfoot "a true
example of farmers working for
farmers."
He said she has given 100 per cent
as a director on the Federation
board, as well as by representing the
south of the county at OFA.
In accepting the award, Broadfoot
said it had been an honour to serve
and called her work with the
Federation a wonderful learning
experience.

"Water's the hole in the fence with
NAFTA. It gets bigger if you don'(
fix it. The Canadian public is crying
for an answer."
A total of 190 organizations have
submitted the resolution to date.
Deadline is Feb.14. .
"If 1 have a credo, it's that if you
have the capacity you have the
responsibility. This is about
sustainability, sovereignty and
voice."
Letter to the editor
THE EDITOR,
Next week every household in
North Huron and South Bruce will
receive a letter regarding the Wings
of a Dove campaign to raise funds
for the Wingham and Area Palliative
Care Services organization.
As chairperson for this
campaign I am hopeful that you will
read the letter and consider the
following:

QUESTIONS
In the brief question period
following Holm's extensive
presentation, the Canadian
Cattlemen's response to the crisis
was challenged. "Is CCA still
sleeping with the Liberals," ,the
attendee asked.
Holm replied that "Ottawa
bureaucrats are very skilled in
manipulating, so I don't want to be
too hard on CCA."
She added that Charlie Gracey of
seriously ill or dying people while
'their families get some sleep or
have time to shop for gro-
ceries.
2) There may come a time when
you or someone in your family
may need this service.
3) It is vital that we have
community support for our
program.
Every donation, whether large or
small, will be carefully used. If 10
per cent of the 8,000 households
the Canadian Livestock
Identification Agency had been told
that if there is no change after the
U.S. election, the CCA will then
"push Ottawa to take on Chapter
20."
When Holm said that should the
U.S. not open the border after the
ruling, Canada would pick the most
politically strategic measure they
could in response."
"What if it's not enough?" one
man countered.
who receive our letter would send us
the cost of six cups of coffee and/or
six muffins we could achieve our
goal for this campaign.
Donations of $10 or more will
receive a receipt for income tax
purposes.
If you wish more information you
can call 357-2720 or 887-9621.
Please consider becoming one of
our supporters.
Bev Brown
Campaign Chair.
"What if we do nothing?" replied
Holm.
Pam Stanley of Huron Business
Development Corporation offered a
somewhat tongue-in-cheek
suggestion. "How about this? Ten
cows for one flu vaccine."
Another woman asked how to get
support outside the agricultural
community. Holm mentioned
bringing the media in on the issue
of the water resolution to say' "look
what farmers are doing to save your
community."
Stanley said that at HBDC things
are being done for agriculture. "Be
assured in our view farming is an
industry in this county. It's the only
industry in this county and we're
behind you 100 per cent."
Gracey applauded Holm saying:
that no one has done for farmers
what she has done on this issue.
"She's been a burr under people's
saddles, and I couldn't let her leave
without telling you."
Asked why farmers couldn't gain
the respect of the government, Holm
answered that "America was born of
revolution. Canada was born from a
different process of peace, order and
good government. To challenge
governments we have to turn around
our whole mind set." Wings of Dove campaign begins
