Entertainment Leisure Saints and Sinners take centre stage at Stratford The Stratford Festival will mount 14 plays at its four theatres in 2005 and explore the theme of Saints and Sinners in theatrical literature, artistic director Richard Monette Sent Out in Mission was the theme for the Maitland Presbyterial Fall Rally held on Sept. 27 at the Lucknow Presbyterian Church. A chicken dinner, prepared by members of the Lucknow Church, was enjoyed by 76 members. Agnes Bregman welcomed all and opened the meeting with prayer. Joanne Lennips, representative elder of Lucknow Presbyterian Church, brought greetings from Grey-Bruce Presbytery and the Rev. Peggy Kinsman. Following opening worship service items of business were dealt with. Treasurers were reminded the allocation monies are to be in before the end of December. Gorrie WMS will be disbanding since the church will be closed. Joanne Lennips of Lucknow shared special music accompanied by Norma Raynard. Marjorie Deyell of Belmore introduced the guest speaker, Lorne Underwood, . a local farmer commissioned by the Canadian Food Grains Bank to do a food study tour of Mozambique and Malawi. He said that the people are very grateful for the food given to them. There is so much HIV/AIDS in the country, many families have lost either a mother or father. The people generally die by the age of 42, or announced Sept. 15. "In the aftermath of 9/I I ; the world has become a more polarized place, for many people: a place of good and evil, black and white," said Monette. "As I was selecting the playbill for 2005, it struck me that many of these plays are about the tension between the contrary impulses of the human soul. And so we have a season of plays about 'saints and 'sinners' for, after all, each of us is one or the other, and sometimes we are both." The playbill will feature three works by William Shakespeare, two by American playwright Tennessee Williams, a drama by French author Jean Anouilh, a comedy by Noel Coward, four new or revived Canadian works, the Broadway musicals Hello, Dolly! and Into the Woods, and the Festival's first-ever production of a work by Shakespeare's contemporary, Christopher Marlowe. At the Festival Theatre will be The Tempest by William Shakespeare; Hello, Dolly! with book by Michael Stewart and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman; As You Like It by William Shakespeare; and The Lark by Jean Anouith. At the Avon Theatre are Into the Woods with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine; Fallen Angels by Noel Coward and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams. At the Tom Patterson Theatre is Wingfield's Inferno by Dan Needles; The Brothers Karamozov by Jason Sherman; Orpheus Descending by Tennessee Williams and Measure for Measure by William ShakeSpeare. At the Studio Theatre will be The Measure of Love by Nicolas Billon; The Donnellys: Sticks & Stones by James Reaney and_ Edward II by Christopher Marlowe.
