Brussels Livestock report
3,017 head of cattle on offer at sale
Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending Oct.
8 were 3.017 head of cattle, 446
lambs and goats. On Tuesday the
fed steers and heifers sold on a
steady market. Fancy and double-
muscle steers and heifers sold $83 to
$88 with sales to $96.50. Choice
steers and heifers sold $77 to $82
and second-cut steers and heifers
sold $72 to $75. The cows also trad-
ed steady.
On Thursday the veal traded
actively at prices $5 to $10 lower.
The lambs sold on a steady market.
On Friday the calves sold under
pressure while the yearlings sold
steady.
There were 532 steers on offer.
Scottslea Farms Ltd., Blyth, con-
signed one gold steer weighing
1,140 lbs. which sold for $96.50.
Their overall offering of eight steers
averaged 1,224 lbs. selling for an
average price of $80.07. Six red
steers consigned by Kevin
Stewardson, Wyoming, averaged
1,453 lbs. selling for an average
price of $74.13 with sales up to

There was a free lunch for Huron
County councillors, along with
dozens of volunteers for the Huron
Good Food Box program, following
Thursday's council meeting.
The volunteers had been presented
with certificates at the session of
county council. Jane Muegge and
Deb Campbell of the Huron Field
to Table Network also made a pres-
entation to council, outlining the
success of the Good Food Box pro-
gram.

volunteers who help with the pro-
gram, Muegge noted that "these
people lugged and slugged over
91,000 pounds of food in the past
year."

comes from local growers, with
$37,000 spent with local suppliers,
she said. She read off a list of farm-
ers and agri-businesses from across
the county who had sold products to
the program and a lengthy list show-
averaged 1,565 lbs. selling for an
average price of $75.54.
Thirteen charolais steers con-
signed by. Lori Gimbel, Elmwood,
averaged 1,397 lbs. selling for an
average price of $74.11 with sales
up to $85.75. Elwood Donald, Mt.
Forest, consigned one limousin steer
weighing 1,280 lbs. which sold for
$84. His overall offering of twenty-
five steers averaged 1,474 lbs. sell-
ing for an average price of $73.27.
There were 252 heifers on offer.

one limousin heifer weighing 1,215
lbs. which sold for $88.75. Their
overall offering of twenty heifers

The EASY Riders 4-H horse club
attended the Seaforth Fall Fair for
their achievement day with their
horses. Most 4-H clubs in Huron
County came to show the animal
they raised that year.
There were four classes: lead-line,
costume, trail and hack.
The placings are listed as follows:
lead, first, Keisha Bishop; costume,
first, Keisha Bishop as a bride upon
her "groom" horse; tied for -second
was Meris Carrick with, her "zebra"
entry and Shelby Moore as a black
caped rider complete with sword;
walk, trot hack, first, Brittany Bos;
second, Meris Carrick, hack, walk.
trot, canter; first, Laura Snell; sec-
ond, Kendra Durst; trail; first, Laura
Snell; second Katie Irvin.
Every member had a good time
and enjoyed the experience of show-
ing their horse.
The last meeting of the year was
held at Keisha Bishop's house. The
club had a barbecue, enjoyed some
games and wrote the year-end test.
