Oh babies
These moms are attending the Nobody's Perfect parenting program being offered in Brussels
by the Huron County Health unit and Rural Response for Healthy Children. The program is for
parents of children aged birth to six. Information is shared on the healthy growth and
development of children, nutrition, safety and behaviour issues that parents experience during
these years. Many of these moms are providing the best start in life by breastfeeding their
babies. Last week was Canadian Breastfeeding Week. Information and help for any mothers
wanting to breastfeed their babies for the first year of life can be obtained by calling 482-3416

Congratulations to George and
Gloria Love on the birth of a
granddaughter. Hayley Rose was
born Sept. 28 to Richard and Lynne
Love of Owen Sound. Big brother
Hayden is very excited.
Returning from a spur-of-the-
moment trip to Holland were Chris
and Brett Lee. An unexpected
opportunity to accompany Brett
Daly, the publisher of Racer X
Canada. a motocross magazine,
arose and off they went. They were
attending the Motocross of Nations —
an annual international event with 29
countries participating.
Team Canada consisted of three
riders including Jean Sebastian Roy,
Quebec (the winner at Walton's
national race), Blair Morgan,
Saskatchewan and Dusty Klatt of
Vancouver. They placed eighth in the
overall standings with Belgium and
Netherlands placing first and
second.
After arriving in Amsterdam Chris
and Brett were met by a cousin of
Brett's wife. They were given a great
tour of the city.
They went to Haastercht to stay
with other relatives at their bed and
breakfast which is on a dairy farm.
They invited many of the relatives
over to meet Brett and Chris who
had a fabulous time.
They were treated royally by the
friendly Dutch people.
Chris and Brett attended the
motocross race at Lierop which was
televised live throughout Europe.
Chris will be reporting on the event
in. his capacity as reporter for a
motocross magazine. Brett took
notes•on running this successful race
for his job with CMRC.
They returned after six days.
Leona McDonald has returned
from a trip to the west. She landed in
Calgary and spent a few days with
grandson Michael. his wife Chrissy
and their daughter Sydney.
She then took the bus to Brock
Junction in Saskatchewan where she
stayed with a relative, Myrt Speirs,
wife of the late Jim Speirs. She had a
chance to visit with Jim's family as
well as Myrt's family, the
Benjamins. They also visited Mary
Ritchie and others around Rosetown.
They travelled into Kinderslie to
hear a• concert" by the Calgary
Fiddlers. They are a group of 15
young people, 12-18 years old who
play fiddle music. There is also one
drummer and one pianist. Leona
reports they were excellent.
She returned to Calgary to spend
time with granddaughter Kendra. as
well as having dinner with Mike.
She also saw Brian and Linda
Marks before her return.
She reports great weather out there
and everyone hard at the harvest.
They are piling wheat right in the
fields due to a limit of how much can
be sold in a year. Other grains for
birdseed or canola are also being
worked on.
The Speirs family had 2,500 acres
yet to harvest when she left.
Returning to Calgary after a visit
with mother-in-law Karin McDonald
Calhoun was Chrissy and baby
Sydney. They toured the area when
able and Grandma Leona returned to
visit with Chrissy and Sydney a
couple of days before their return.
The west is popular as Campbell
Wey and daughter Dena from
Pittsburgh drove out to Calgary.
They were delivering a truck to
grandson Cameron.
While they were there, Campbell
celebrated his birthday. He and Dena
then flew home to Ontario and
celebrated Thanksgiving before.
Dena returned to Pittsburgh.
Hosting a motocross practice day
at the Lee farm on Saturday and
Sunday was the Lee family. About
100 turned out. As well there was a
Kawasaki demonstration put on by
Two Wheel.
It was Thanksgiving this past
weekend with many families getting
together to celebrate.
On Saturday, Keith and Gloria
Wilbee hosted the Wilbee family at
their home.
Fred and Heidi McClure and
family travelled to Mitchell to gather
with the Nater family.
Marilyn McDonald hosted her
family, Saturday and daughter Pat
with husband Mike and sons stayed
over.
On Sunday. Neil and Marie
Mitchell and family travelled to
Bayfield to her family celebration,
while Emerson and Phyllis Mitchell
hosted the rest of the Mitchell
families for Thanksgiving.

Attendees of Duff's United
Church for the Intergenerational
Thanksgiving service were greeted
by Albrecht, Annelies and William
Ringgenberg. The call to worship
was read by Jacob and MacKenzie
McGavin.
Rev. Joan Tuchlinsky thanked
those who decorated the church for
its fall and Thanksgiving season.
This Sunday, Oct. 17 will be a lay-
led worship service.
Following the service will be a
launch for the calendars that the
fundraising committee has worked
on this year. Payment and pickup of
ordered or unordered calendars will
be done after church, during a coffee
and social time.
Brandon McOavin read the Prayer
of Approach. It was a combined
effort between the junior choir
singing the hymn Shout for God and
the congregation singing the echo
part.
Abby McGavin delivered the

Seaforth to Jason and LeeAnn
Konarski's• along with the Clarke
families from Mitchell to celebrate
together.
Bill and Marjorie Humphries had a
working bee get-together at their
home.
Don and Pat Nolan hosted their
family on Sunday.
The Godkin family gathered
together on Monday with almost all
the family able to be home.
I'm sure many more families
enjoyed getting together and we
hope all had a thankful and
wonderful time together.
Birthdays celebrated this past
week include Dianne McCallum,
Viola Kirkby, Jared Kelso, Cheryl
Ryan, Agnes Schade, Stefan Nichol,
Greg Ducharme and Kathy Huether.

The senior choir sang The
Centennial Hymn. A dramatic
presentation of Deuteronomy 26: I-
I I was done by Laura and Bethany
Black. The added musical talents of
Glenda Morrison on organ and
Marie McGavin on piano livened the
Psalm 100, Make a Joyful Noise.
The message entitled, A Parade of
Gifts, was presented by Rev. Joan
and Graeme Craig.
The children of the Sunday
presented the many symbols of
Thanksgiving — hope, faith, learning,
etc. Children included Abby, Jacob.
MacKenzie, Tyson and Teagan
McGavin, Allison, Scott, Craig,
Ryan, Adam and Emma Baan,
William Ringgenberg, Emily, Sean
and Sarah Mitchell and Bethany and
Laura Black.
The offering was collected by Jim
McDonald and Graeme Craig with
accompaniment by Mrs. Morrison
and Mrs. Mitchell.

The UCW supper committee met
on Tuesday evening to plan the
upcoming turkey supper set for Nov.
3 at BMG arena.
The decision to sell only 800
tickets had been made so food was
planned accordingly. Members can
expect their lists anytime and can
keep these dates in mind.
The day to clean the kitchen is
Oct. 24 at 9 a.m.
Set up is at BMG arena Monday,
Nov. 1 at 9:30 p.m. All help is
greatly appreciated. Supper .prep is
Tuesday at 12:30 p.m.
If you have a large turkey pan,
crockpot, Dutch oven or large bowls,
they are all needed by Tuesday. Be
sure to have your name on your
items.
The UCW met on Wednesday
evening for its October meeting with
Helen Craig, Marion Godkin, Mary
Mann and Jo-Ann McDonald
leading the meeting and supplying
lunch.
Only nine members were on hand
to hear guest speakers Andrew Ross
and John Spence on the Guatemala
relief' efforts.
Duff's fundraising committee
to launch calendars, Oct. 17
