WMS hears story of Dorcus The Evening Group of the Belgrave United Church Women at the home of Barbara Anderson on Tuesday evening with the members answering the roll call with what they will do for Thanksgiving. Muriel Coultes was in charge of the meeting and opened with a poem. Be Thankful. Irene Lamont opened the worship with a Call to Worship and Lillian Campbell offered a prayer. Mrs. Lamont's meditation was on the theme, Gift for Today and the scripture was read by Mrs. Campbell. Come Ye Thankful People Come was sung and Lillian closed with prayer. The business was conducted by Mrs. Coultes and the minutes and treasurer's report were given and approved. Mabel Wheeler gave her card report and reported sending six cards. The date of the November meeting has been changed to Monday, Nov. I with dessert at 7 p.m. All are invited and welcome to come and hear Mary Ann Tangney from Hamilton who has spent time in Iraq with the peacekeepers. The program was given by Mrs. Coultes, and she read an article of the United Church in Montreal which has been offering sanctuary to a refugee family from Bogata, Columbia. Churches there have always been considered safe places until this year when the government raided a church and removed a family. She then showed a video on the United Church in Whitehorse. Yukon, which had programs similar to the ones in Belgrave. This was a Spirit Connection Video from Avel. Discussion was held on what their issues are, as compared to church here in this area. The meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction. Jane Grasby and Mrs. Anderson served lunch. A social time followed. The WMS held its meeting on Monday, Oct. 4 at the home of Dini Nethery. Freda Scott presided and used the service from the Glad Tidings with all helping. The hymn, Come Ye Thankful People Come, was followed by scripture and prayer. Another hymn, Sing to the Lord of the Harvest, was used and Mrs. Scott gave a meditation. She then read a story of Dorcus, a widow who became ill and died. Peter brought her back to life. She was generous to the poor, sewing clothes for those in need. Margaret Siertsema gave the secretary's report and Ivy Cloakey the treasurer's report. The roll call was to tell of something to be grateful for. There were 26 sick and shut-in visits.recorded. The last hymn was Now Sing We a Song of Harvest. Rev.
