Family concert in Blyth to benefit area youth
On Saturday. Oct. 16, Phil Main
and friends come to the Memorial
Hall to officially release their latest
CD: Father and Son(s).
Marty have enjoyed Main's
previous CDs and won't want to miss
his latest project. The concert will
feature many of the songs on this CD.
plus sing-a-long worship songs. The
Bushell family will be there too to
share their musical gifts.
Each of Main's CDs has been made
to benefit a local organization,
previously the Wingham Area Right
to Life. This CD is no exception with
the proceeds of its sale going to the
North Huron Upper Deck Youth
Centre in Wingham.
This youth centre is a division of
the Quad County Youth for Christ, a
non-denominational, non-profit.
charitable organization that relies on
generous support -from local
individual. organizations-- and
fundraising events such as this. There
are other Upper Deck Youth Centres
in Listowel. Kincardine, Exeter. and
Woodstock, with co-ordination and
accountability provided for by the
Woodstock office.
The Wingham centre has been
operating for over a year with one
full-time staff person, Debbie Main
and with the help of many teen and
adult volunteers, as well as a local
steering committee of eight adults.
The centre provides a place for
local youth to have a safe place, off
the streets, where they will find
people who care, with a listening ear
and participate in fun activities. There
are several programs geared toward
different groups of teens: Just
Hangin' for younger teen girls; Just
Chillin' for mid-teen girls: a
homework progriihjust starting up to
help teens succeed in school. Also
because of the number of teen moms,
much support has been given them
with help to get to appointments and
baby supplies- passed on from
donations. A guys group meets
Sunday afternoons for sports.
There have been opportunities for a
summer student to work there and
many volunteer hours are spent
helping with the programs and
weekend open hours.
If you. would be interested in being
involved call 357-2277.
Main and friends devoted many .
hours to making this CD and Wayne
Taylor of The Shire donated all of his
time and equipment to the project
because they believe in the ministry
of the Youth Centre wanting young
people to know they care about them,
and God cares.
Tickets for the Oct. 16- concert are
$10 per person or $30 per family.
They are available from Luann's
Country FloVvers, Queen St. in Blyth.
