PAGE 3. Local volunteers being recognized A number of local volunteers are being recognized for their contribution in helping to make their community better. The Ontario government wanted to recognize the hard work that volunteers and volunteer services do each year by having them nominated by a local organization. A number of local residents have been nominated, for one of several volmiteer awards, by the Baitan Art Gallery. These volunteers include Patricia Ham, Elizabeth Battye, Jerry McDonnell, Carol McDonnell, Cora de Vries and Greg Sherwood. The Blyth Festival Young Company nominated John Battye Jr., Capucine Onn, Josie McDonald and Arras Hopkins. The Blyth Festival nominated Dave Onn, Enid MacDonald, Peg Kellins. Harry Lear, Dan Webster and Bonnie Roy. • The Blyth Festival Singers nominated Shelley McPhee-Haist, Mary Hearn, Casey Van Bakel, Joan Perrie and Inge Wraith. The Blyth Festival Orchestra nominated Jeanette Sears. Bernard Goward, Sarah Lynn, David Drake. Thomas Drake and Murray Hall. The Blyth Festival Community Performers nominated Deb Sholdice, Wendy Hoernig, Jan Lalonde, Donald Andrew, Harry Nesbitt and Bruce Whitmore. Sympathy is extended to Doug Vincent and and family and to the Bromley family on the death of Darlene Vincent. Darlene lost her life to cancer after a valiant fight. Harvey McDowell is a patient in Wingham and District Hospital. We wish him a speedy recovery. We are glad to hear that Lois van Vliet is back home after being in the London hospital. Deb, Fred, Jonathan and Quinton Hakkers, Bodie and 011ie Craig, Don and Marilyn Craig, all of• Blyth visited last weekend with Bodie and The Blyth Festival board of directors nominated Keith Roulston, Don McCaffrey, Joe Wooden, Sara Trainor, Marg Webster and Carol Oriold. Don's sister and brother-in-law Joye and Murray Kane of Fullarton. While there they had a tour of their cabin in the bush that they had made out of field stone and had a barbecue in the bush along with neighbours, friends and relatives. Happy birthday to Betty Hesselwood who celebrates her birthday on Sunday, Oct. 10. Blyth United Church started their month of celebrating 150 years on Sunday, Oct. 3, with guest speaker Cecil Wittich. For the month of October the guest speakers are all former ministers: Thanksgivings Oct: 10 will be Charlie Scott, Oct. 17, Rev. Stephen Huntley, and Oct. 24 Rev. Ken Bauman. Greeting at Blyth United Church on Sunday. Oct. 3 was Diana Campbell. Ushers were Joann MacDonald, Doug Howson, Nicole Kerr and Lavern Clark. Guest musician was Margaret Kai. The congregation welcomed Rev. Eugen Bannerman back from The Majestic Women's Institute in Brussels nominated Kathy Bridge. The Clinton Adult Day Centre (midwestern adult dayservices) nominated Jack Lee. holidays. Guest speaker was Cecil Wittich. Rev. Bannerman opened with a prayer. Greeting were from Rev. Bannerman and Dr, Lavern Clark, chair of the official board. Rev. Bannerman dedicated the history room and a gift of a watercolour. For the children's story, A Piece of Wood, Rev. Bannerman showed Them a board from the first Presbyterian Church. The children sang Happy Birthday, Dear Church and were dismissed for Sunday School downstairs. The choir anthem was Guide Me, 0 Thou Great Jehovah. Rev. Wittich read the scripture from Ephesians 4: 1-16. 011ie Craig led the responSive Psalm 150 with the choir singing the refrain. Rev. Wittich's anniversary sermon was, Giving Thanks For The Church. He talked of all the groups that have been in the church over 150 years. The congregation stood and repeated the New United Church Creed in unison. • Those serving communion were Joan Clark, Judy Gleave, Doug Howson, Diana Campbell,. Joann MacDonald and Myrtle Badley. The Benediction was: the best minister ,you can have is your own heart, the best book you can read is the world around you, and best gift you can receive is the peace of God that passes all understanding, and keeps you until that day.
