The birthday girls were away to
celebrate a couple of birthdays last
week. Celebrants were Anne Ryan
and Viola Kirkby. They travelled to
the Fireside Cafe to enjoy a lunch.
Helping the girls celebrate were
Marilyn McDonald, Marie Coutts,
Mary Humphries and . Audrey
Hackwell.
Jean Bewley has returned from a
trip to the west. She and daughter
Mary Baker of Bolton flew to
Calgary where youngest daughter
Brenda Raven of Airdrie, Alberta
picked them up. They headed north
to Edmonton and spent a day or so
visiting with Elizabeth Bewley
Hutch (daughter of Art Bewley).
They also went to the Columbia Ice
Fields and were fortunate to have a
beautiful sunny day.
They were hiking at Athabasca
Falls, Maligne Canyon and Swiffler
Falls. They also squeezed in a visit
with grandson John Raven and wife
Jilly. as well as grandson Scott
Raven and fiancé Heather. Jean
reports a wonderful trip and being
just a little tired.
Congratulations to Casey and
Melissa Boven on the birth of
daughter Hanna Grace.

Big, brother Adam is excited and all
are doing fine.

daughter Linda and we wish her well
in her new surroundings.
There was a lovely wedding'
anniversary party held at St. Peter's
Lutheran Chui-ch. Brodhagen for
Boyd- and Gertrude Driscoll to
celebrate 60 years of marriage. It
was hosted by niece and nephew,
Karen Rapien and Glenn DoImage.
The crowd enjoyed scripture
readings by the church's minister.
Son Eric and wife were there to help
their parents celebrate. A lovely
lunch of cake and coffee was served.
Neil and Marie McGavin have
returned from spending the week at
the International Plowing Match
held in Meaford. They enjoyed
renewing old friendships and
meeting new friends. They report it
was very dry and dusty and the soil
was very sandy.
They were also there to support
the half dozen Huron County
Plowman competitors. Their
grandson Brandon, who is coached
by his father Brian, put in three days
of plowing. He plows with a two-
furrow plow, in the 10-16 age class
and has competed for two years.
There were 10 competitors in the
class and Brandon finished eighth .on
day one, fourth on day two and first
on day three.
He did not place in the top two for
the three-day scores but showed
steady improvement everyday and is
an up-and-coming competitor.
The highlight at the banquet was
the announcement that two young
•men from Huron County were the
winners of the Ontario Plowmen's
Association scholarships to attend
college or university. They were
Tyson Arts and Steve Haney from
the Dublin/Seaforth area. Both were
competing at the match.

Huron County Queen of the Furrow
attended the Howick fair. She
participated in the opening as well as
presenting the Miss, Congeniality
award.
Celebrating a combined birthday
celebration were Gerry and Anne
Ryan. It was a surprise party
arranged by their family for their
70th and 65th birthdays respectively.
Paul and Cheryl and boys arranged
to have Gerry and Anne at Paul's
home, then managed to deliver them
back to their own home to a houseful
of close friends and immediate
family. They enjoyed a lovely social
afternoon on the veranda and on the
new porch :;wing they received.
An address_read by Cheryl Ryan
encouraged them to take a day out
and enjoy the beautiful day. It was a
tremendous surprise and the many
humorous birthday cards were
enjoyed by all.
Happy birthday to both Gerry and
Anne. ,
