UCW
Twelve were present for the Blyth
United Church Women meeting
Thursday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m.
Emily Phillips opened with
worship. The theme, was on living
one day at a time.
Mrs. Phillips then led the study on
the Cuban 'Revelation'.
Eleven million people live in Cuba.
The revolution happened in 1961.
Cuba has become a Carribean
getaway. Its chief exports are sugar,
nickel and sun.
Women do not have a say. It is a
man's world.
The revolution gave women
universal education, healthcare and
day care; but not breakfast, lunch,
and suppci', said Mrs. Phillips. The
women live with violence in the
home. There is free education for all,
but they can't make much money.
Cuba has the highest literacy rate
in Latin America.
The UCW is making meat pies
Wednesday, Nov. 3 and Wednesday,
Nov. 17.
The fall rally is Oct. 4 at St. John's
United Church, Stratford.
Registration is 6:30 p.m.
The next meeting is Oct. 28 at 2
p.m.
Lunch was served by Myrtle
