Greeting at Blyth United Church on Sunday, Sept. 19 was Joann MacDonald. Ushers were Lori Brooks and Nicole Kerr. Guest musician was Margaret Kai. Guest speaker was Gloria Wilbee of the Walton area. The church's 150th anniversary is October and former ministers are returning to help celebrate. Rev. Cecil Wittich, Rev. Charlie Scott, Rev. Stephen Huntley and Rev. Ken Bauman will be guest ministers. The fall supper is Oct. 16. Gloria favoured the congregation with a solo Let There Be Love. The choir sang the anthem Lord, Be Glorified. The first reading was by 011ie Craig taken from 1st Corinthians 13: 1-13. Psalm 33 was led by Gloria with the choir singing the refrain. Approximately 200 Women's Institute members, representing 981 members in 62 branches and seven districts will be meeting at the Holmesville Community Centre, Tuesday, Oct. 5 starting at 8:45 a.m. for the 90th annual London area convention. The theme this year is, "If It Is To Be, It Is Up to Me, and the event is hosted by Huron South and Huron West Districts. Fern Dougall and Wilma Higgins will welcome the ladies as they arrive, while Huron West District will provide the coffee and goodies, so that everyone is ready for the activities to come. For roll call each District president will give a two-minute summary of The Blyth Swinging Seniors held their regular meeting Wednesday Sept. 22. Attendance at the fall rally at Seaforth on Oct. 14 was discussed and members were asked to register With Lawrence Plaetzer by Oct. 7. Tentative plans were made for the Christmas banquet on Nov. 24. Jean Plaetzer is in charge of tickets. A donation was made to the Midwestern Adult Day Services. The 50/50 draw was won by Shirley Dale. Kay Hesselwood and Doris Hicks. The afternoon concluded with euchre. All seniors are welcome to the meetings. Mary Morritt Bellerby of North Vancouver spent a few days with Brock and Janis Vodden recently. Janis and Mary attended a Morritt family gathering at Thorndale. Sunday school has resumed at Blyth United Church. Come out and see the fun and learn all about the Bible. Margaret Nesbit of Seaforth Manor is in Seaforth hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery. Many 8th Line neighbours, friends and relatives gathered at the home farm of John and Ann Nesbit to help them celebrate the building of their new pig barn with an open-house in the afternoon and a barn dance in the evening. We wish them all the best in their new venture. Gloria's message to the adults was A New Song. She said she began singing when she was three years old. One of the songs she wrote and recorded in Larry Mercey's Studio in Elmira was Sweet Heavenly Music. She and her husband Keith played with Keith's family's orchestra. In 1988 Keith's parents celebrated 59 years of marriage and 50 years of music. In 1981 Gloria took some religious courses and is presently taking a two-year course in Middlesex Presbytery Lay School of Theology. Gloria favoured the congregation with another solo Sweet Heavenly Music. The pastoral prayer was followed by the singing of The Lord's Prayer. the past year's activities. President Eleanor Williams will address the gathering on the theme of the convention. The new FWIO president Elsie Stephenson will bring news of the Ontario body. The evening banquet will start with piper Jim Craig. Two scholarships will be awarded, the Dorothy Futcher and the Maryn Pardy. The theme, was on living one day at a time. Mrs. Phillips then led the study on the Cuban 'Revelation'. Eleven million people live in Cuba. The revolution happened in 1961. Cuba has become a Carribean getaway. Its chief exports are sugar, nickel and sun. Women do not have a say. It is a man's world. The revolution gave women universal education, healthcare and day care; but not breakfast, lunch, and suppci', said Mrs. Phillips. The women live with violence in the home. There is free education for all, but they can't make much money. Cuba has the highest literacy rate in Latin America. The UCW is making meat pies Wednesday, Nov. 3 and Wednesday, Nov. 17. The fall rally is Oct. 4 at St. John's United Church, Stratford. Registration is 6:30 p.m. The next meeting is Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. Lunch was served by Myrtle Badley and Sharon Bromley.
