Call Marie at 887-9608 for details At the Branch By Jo-Ann McDonald On Tuesday evening, the Legion had a team participate the Brussels Fall Fair in the Green Acres Mayor's Challenge. Team members on the Legionnaire Looney Tunes team were Norm Dobson, Allyson Cardiff, Andy Overholt and Sandra Josling. They had to shuck corn, build a vegetable pig and do an obstacle course, as well as being judged on their costumes. Tied with the Brussels Optimist team for first place, the pepper toss decided the win for the Legionnaire Looney Tunes. The presentation of the Mayor's Challenge trophy — an oversized decorated tricycle was made to the team. The team with a couple of replacements had the trophy on display on a trailer to participate in the fair parade. The Friday night supper this week is roast beef. Another week has flown by and once again we must be having a good time because I lost the week. It's Monday once more and time to look back just a little to see where the time went. The weather held out and the fall fair was fun for all. Thanks for the fine show of experience and talent as the rest of us admired pickles, writing, pies, flowers, grain, art, calves, photos, vegetables, horses, handiwork and hobbies. Well done. Friday was Brussels day at the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo in Meaford. It was a good day for checking out the displays and wares and good to see several familiar faces — Tim, Jim, Leona, Clarence, Marie, Graham and Marg. Another beautiful area of Ontario. On Sunday Allyson Doreen was baptized into the United Church of Canada. She was on her best The sold-out elimination draw was held Saturday. Over 170 enjoyed the fish fry. A number stayed to enjoy the Legion Troupe entertain. Prior to the draw Bessie Johnston and Donald Dunbar provided music on the pipes. It was wonderful. The Legion Family Feud pitted the Hatfield and McCoys against one another. The Hatfield team included Darryl from Dorking (aka Tim Harrison), Debbie from Dorking (aka Ruth Lowe), other brother Darryl from Dorking (aka Rick McDonald) and Darla from Dorking (aka Allyson Cardiff). The McCoy team featured Bill from Brussels (aka Gary Pipe), Bob from Brussels (aka Norm Dobson), Bev from Brussels (aka Linda Hislop) and Barb from Brussels (aka Patty Vandemeere). Host John Lowe Dawson did an excellent job of running the game show with assistant Vanna White behaviour and brought smiles and relief to her parents Marc and Tricia Barbour as well as the grandparents, aunts and uncles. This week's Kitchener Record had a feature on Huron County's Alice Munro. The heading read "Master of her craft" and went on to praise her new book Runaway. Like very few current authors she sees the world with clarity and talks about lives that show the workings of our time. Besides living in our area, Alice has found a second piece of heaven and lives part-time in Comox, B.C. That part of Vancouver Island was one of the spots that we checked out as tourists in July and it can give Huron a run for a pretty nice place to live and work. From the sounds of the reviewer Alice has another literary masterpiece for us to share. The little buggy germs and viruses are in a hurry this year and chose Braemar and Huronlea to make their presence known. Visitors are being restricted for a few days as the lives of these little bugs are under strict surveillance. Life comes to a halt when the unwelcome microbes enter your system and about all you can do is not share. So hello to our friends at Braemar and Huronlea — you'll soon have visitors again. Good bye September. Bye now, Betty G.W. (aka Deb Trollope). During the commercial breaks the acting troupe went into action. Helping out were Sandra, Catrina and Devon Josling, John and Julie Harrison, Jo-Ann, LeeAnn and Kelly McDonald, and Eric Ross. The evening concluded with the top prize winners being drawn. Congrats to the $1,00 winner, Sandra Giesbrecht. Comrades Ross and Marg Bennett and Mabel Glanville travelled by bus to Parkwood for the variety show and to present the goody bags to patients.
