They are a newly married, young couple, Jack and Angie (played by Coates and Good) and a middle-aged man and woman (played by Douglas and Bennett) who share a long, birding acquaintance. The weekend turns out to be life-changing for all four and a treat for the audience too, full of gentle humour and an intriguing air of mystery. Following the reading of Joyne's project Dump Girl, Coates suggested that Touchmark Theatre and Blyth Festival combine forces on Touchmark's next workshop event. • He added that Blyth had interest in another of Simon Joynes' plays, Feathers, which he felt was ready for its final workshop. Beattie read Feathers and agreed it would be a perfect candidate for Touccimark's play reading series. For a staged reading of a play in progress the script is almost finished and ready for production. The presentation is well rehearsed and lively, and the talk-back and discussion following the reading provide a fascinating window into the inner workings of a play. Touchmark Theatre is Guelph's resident professional theatre company. Tickets for the staged reading of Feathers on Friday, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. in The Co-operators Hall at the River Run Centre are currently on sale and may be ordered by calling the River Run Centre Box Office at 1-519463-3000 or 1-877- 520-2408.
