Reduce the Risk of West Nile Virus
As the days get shorter and 'Cooler, mosquitoes
are still present and precautions are necessary.
How to prevent mosquitoes bites:
• Take precautions outdoors, especially in early morning and early
evening, when mosquitoes are most active.
• Wear light-coloured clothing and cover up whenever possible.
• Use insect repellent containing 10% DEET or less.
What is the County doing?
The County of Huron has a West Nile Virus Advisory Committee
and a program to monitor birds and mosquitoes for West Nile
Virus.
What can you do?
• Stay informed about West Nile Virus.
• Report sightings of dead crows and blue jays to the Health Unit.
• Drain the rain on your home, cottage and business property.

North Huron council briefs
.1 Council accepts tender for mower/blower
At its Monday night meeting,
North Huron council accepted the
tender of Huron Tractor for a mower
and blower in the amount of
$30,164.50 including taxes.
Public works director Ralph
Campbell said that after the GST
rebate of roughly $1,800 the mower
will come in under the $30,000
budgetted amount.

amalgamation.
"The more that get on board, the
more we think the government is
going to have to look at it," said
Dave Diehl.
Dianne Diehl said the group has
approached the municipality for the
dollar values contributed by Grey
taxpayers and how the money is
spent. As of the group's meeting
Sept. 16, they were not yet available.
It was expected that they would be
on hand for council's Sept. 22
meeting.
'It has also been stated that we
have misinformation about
spending," said Dianne Diehl. 'The
truth is we just don't have
information."

animals with all results negative.
Canada has committed to testing

Al Harrison gave a final report on
the Wingham Homecoming.
The total profit was $71,642.
The committee had asked for input
on distribution of the proceeds.
Many good suggestions were
received Harrison said, however,
they chose the hospital and the fire
department as the two top choices.
Committee members then voted for
six more.
Allotments are: fire department,
$15,000, to be used to purchase jaws
of life; hospital, $15.000'towards a
cardiac monitoring system;
playground improvement
committee, $10,000; rec department,
$10,000; museum, $10,000; Legion,
$7,000 and the Optimists, Lions,
