The mood of autumn is one of preparation and so it is quite pleasant to be picking up sticks and doing a little digging and picking in the warmth of the sun. Congratulations to Candice McLellan our newest Brussels Fall Fair Ambassador. We know you'll represent us in fine style. By now the fair is over and done for another year. Once again we need to say a thank you to the board and volunteers who go about the necessary work that makes for a fun time for us. As in most volunteer groups a small number carry the load throughout the year and see that all the necessary plans are in place so the larger community can enjoy the fall fair each September for the last 143 years. Fun and laughter do not make bad things go away but for that moment it is a small relief. So things like fall fairs, plowing matches and farm shows make the day a little brighter. For this year these events are a. very needed diversion as the farmers in our midst cope with very fragile or non-existent crops and markets. Remember where your food comes from and shop with that in mind. Keep our farmers in your prayers as they live their livelihood in very uncertain times. Just For You is closing. Like any business today only the owners know the time and trials involved. It was one of the places that you could pop into and it gave you an instant smile. For even in bleakest day of January, first Rene, then Aggie always had beautiful flowers to make you smile. Darn — you'll he missed. Pat Nolan brought the message of North Huron Foodshare to the United Church on Sunday. As a working board member she sees the need for food in a very stark way in our willage and community. As people of affluence we need to regularly share our food with those whom we don't even see as hungry and in need of nourishment. Each church. has a big blue container that needs to be filled and taken to Wingham for distribution on Wednesday mornings. So share your non-perishable food either_ at the grocery store or at one of the village churches — it is very badly needed. As .we enjoy the days of autumn we could take some time to see how we could be a better contributor to our community and then do it. Bye now, Betty G.W. Walking that counts To show their support to finding a cure for cancer, 74 people participated in the annual Brussels Optimist/Lions Terry Fox Run on Sept. 18.
