PAGEA-17. Thresher Reunion 2004 Kids compete like the big guys in tractor pull Through the inspiration of his grandson, Edgar Daer organized the annual kids' antique garden tractor pull, an event that keeps the next generation interested in the past. Entering its fourth year, the event encourages grandchildren and great- grandchildren of some of the those original Threshers to come out for the three-day event. Though involved in the adult tractor pull for years, Daer of Blyth, said it was his grandson Cody's interest that encouraged him to suggest the junior pull to the Thresher organizers. Cody has been involved for a few years and has begun to win competitions. The Thresher Reunion kids' tractor pull is geared to children between the ages of eight and 15, who would like to follow in the footsteps of those who pull with lull-sized machines. The tractor pull holds a practice run on Saturday afternoon and the actual competition begins Sunday between 3 - 3:30 p.m. Participants must have a parent or guardian who is a member of the Thresher Association, who has sufficient liability insurance and has given signed consent. Parents or guardians must be present for the event as well. Competition is divided by weight class of the antique tractor (1978 or older) plus the rider zero to 400 lbs, 401 to 600 lbs and 601 to 800 lbs categories. Pullers must provide their own tractor and it can be used for only one pull per class. All drivers must wear helmets and provide proof of liablity insurance. The drawbar height must be no higher than 12 inches, no hydraulic lift movement is allowed, the mower deck must be removed and four- wheel drive, duals or chains are not permitted. The challenger is allowed two attempts to move the sled, though there will be no jerking on pull, no excessive RPM and the front-end can lift no more than one foot or at the judges' descretion. The judges reserve the right to stop any contestant seen to be operating the tractor in an unsafe manner and children will not be allowed to drive the tractor around the grounds. Those interested in participating can sign up just prior to the event at the designated weight •scale area, where contestants must park their tractors for the weekend and are not permitted to drive them around the fairgrounds. #AMAMAMM(WWWWIMMWAIWIWI Congratulations Threshers on your 43rd Reunion Whenever you're looking for a new or used car or truck, repairs or leasing See the people at CHEVROLET Ducking through The Clarkshome border collies (herding Indian runner ducks through a barrel) are always a popular attraction.Their demonstration is held on Friday and Saturday morning, at noon on Sunday, 2 p.m. Friday and 3:15 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. With precision and skills, the Clarkshome border collies are guided around obstacles while herding an undisciplined flock of sheep and very funny Indian runner ducks. Now in their ninth year at the reunion, this event is a popular attraction for the entire family. Using his voice and whistle signals, Jim Clark guides the well- trained dogs to bring order out of chaos as the collies round up the errant wanders and bring them home. Originally used to aid shepherds in their lonely task, the border collie has become popular because of its intelligence and good nature.
