"It's something we'd talked about
doing, but you don't come by these
easily."
Nor do you move it easily. After
McCann came back to Daer to offer
the cabin to the Association, in early
summer, work began on permits.
Then in August a crane came in to
lift it and the cabin was carried by
float to Blyth.
Its new location is west of the
windmill across from the blacksmith
shop. Through the course of time,
with help from donors and
volunteers, it is hoped that the log
cabin will replicate the time in
history when it was home to a young
couple and their growing family, and
as an appreciation for the TLC of a
more recent tenant.

Log cabin home to growing family
The way it was

chimneys.
Though the 34x23-foot home had
four rooms. two up and two down,
Hill suspects that there may have
been more in the original building. "I
think there may have been three
bedrooms upstairs, but there was
only one retaining wall when I got
there." Hill knocked this one down
opening the upstairs into one room.
In 1985, Hill brought his new wife,
Marleen, to the cabin. They
eventually added two children to the
family.
In 1995 they moved to a newly-
restored log home in Morris Twp
"That first one was a learning
experience, but it prompted me to
settle here," says the London native.
Daer credits Hill's work saying it's
the reason the cabin was still in good
shape, despite recent neglect. Hill
too admits that the home's future
was bleak when he arrived on the
scene. "If something hadn't been
done it would have fallen apart.
Now, I'm thankful to the Threshers
for moving it into town so it will be
taken care of."
Daer first approached the current
property owner, McCann Redi-
Mix,about selling the cabin to the
Threshers.
