PAGE 29. Students help to `Drive AwayHunker' If you go by two area schools next week, you might be surprised to see a tractor and wagon parked out front. While on his Drive Away Hunger tour, Dale Snider, Farm Credit Corporation's district manager for the Listowel, Walkerton and Owen Sound Region, will be stopping by Grey Central on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 3 p.m. and Brussels Public School on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. to pick up food donations. At those times, students will gather with Snider to celebrate their community service achievements. From Sept. 13 - 20 Snider's Drive Away Hunger tour will confine him to his tractor for eight days as he collects food donations with the world's largest shopping cart, a 100- hp. tractor and 16-foot wagon. The Drive Away Hunger tour starts in Listowel and will wind its way through farming communities in Perth, Huron, Bruce and Grey Counties. The goal of Snider's Drive Away Hunger tour is to collect greater than 20,000 pounds of food for local food banks before World Food Day on October 16. Snider reports that corporate response as been very positive already and that he is confident that the Drive Away Hunger Tour will exceed that goal by Sept. 20 when he ends his tour at the International Plowing Match in Meaford. There he will present the food to local food banks on behalf of Farm Credit Corporation. FCC will match the first $10,000 or pounds of food. In addition to stopping at Brussels Public School and Grey Central, Snider will also be stopping at MDL Doors on Wednesday morning. Students may help Dale Snider Drive Away Hunger by bringing donations of non-perishable food to school any day prior to his visit. Fresh out of ideas about what to donate? The following foodstuffs are needed now and anytime by our local food banks: dried pasta, pasta sauce, cereal, canned fruit, canned vegetables, canned salmon, peanut butter, crackers, cookies and Kraft Dinner. Parents and community members interested in greeting Snider as he passes through the area are welcome. During Snider's short stops at each school, a large group picture will be taken of students with Snider and his tractor.
