Eat Smart! Ontario's Healthy
Restaurant Program is a provincial
Award of Excellence program for
restaurants and cafeterias that meet
high standards.
"When consumers choose to dine
at an Eat Smart! restaurant or
cafeteria, they are guaranteed a
variety of healthy food choices in a
smoke-free environment, prepared
in an establishment with a record of
safe food handling", said Nancy
Fischer, Eat Smart! co-ordinator,
Huron County Health Unit.
Each recognized eatery had a
public health dietitian review its
menu to ensure that healthy food
choices and healthier food
substitutions are available for
consumers. A public health inspector
reviewed the establishment's history
to ensure they follow safe food
handling practices; Eat Smart!
establishments must have at least
one kitchen staff member trained as
a Certified Safe Food Handler.
