Money Tips
(NC) — If you're older, your chil-
dren have grown and you have
already built up substantial equity
in your home, you may want to
free up capital by downsizing.
Moving into a smaller, less
expensive home will provide
additional cash for investment or
retirement living expenses.

Road Watch Huron hosts first conference
Road Watch Huron is holding the
first provincial conference on
September 19-20 in Grand Bend at
the Oakwood Inn and Golf Resort.
"Our committee is thrilled to be
hosting this conference and is look-
ing forward to meeting people from
across the province who are trying to
make road safety a priority in their

communities" says Erica Arnett,
Road Watch co-ordinator.
The conference will be an oppor-
tunity for individuals and communi-
ties who are concerned about road
safety to network and share ideas
and learn about the Road Watch pro-
gram. It will also be an opportunity
for the existing Road Watch commu-
nitics from across Ontario to expand
their knowledge of how to market
the program's messages and to learn
from other communities' successes.
The Road Watch Watch Us
Grow Conference will provide an
opportunity for individuals and com-
munities who are concerned about
road safety to network and share
successes and challenges. The con-
ference will feature sessions on the
'how to's' of starting a ROad Watch
community, a panel discussion on
the value of Road Watch and provide
assistance with marketing the pro-
gram's message.
Road Watch is a community-based
response to impaired and aggressive
driving which allows the general
public to report dangerous driving to
the police. The program is quite sim-
ple. Anyone witnessing dangerous or
impaired driving, such as failing to
stop at traffic lights and stop signs,
speeding, tailgating, unsafe passing
and/or erratic driving, fills out a con-
fidential citizen report form that
identifies the plate number, vehicle
description, and a brief account of
the driving behaviour. The signed,
completed form is dropped off at a
locked drop box located throughout
the community, or sent to the police.
Once the police have verified the
complaint as valid, the owner of the
vehicle will receive a letter describ-
ing the incident, with perhaps a
phone call or personal visit from a
police officer, depending upon the
severity and frequency of the unsafe
driving behaviour.
"The Road Watch Huron commit-
tee is excited about this opportunity
and is looking forward to sharing
ideas with the various communities
from across the province. Our com-
mittee has worked very hard over the
last 10 months that we having been
planning the conference and we have
been very fortunate to receive a lot
of support from the community in
order to help make this conference a
possibility," said Arnett.
