This coming Sunday. Aug. 29 is
the last chance to enjoy a drive-in
service at the Fellowship Bible
Chapel in Londesborough for this
summer. Well-known in this area,
Bob Heywood from Exeter, will
offer his unique ministry of words
and music.
Twelve members of the Cheerio
Club and one guest enjoyed a noon
meal together at the Bayfield Berry
Farm Restaurant on Wednesday,
Aug. 18. They spent the remainder of
their afternoon at the summer home
of Genevieve Allen at Pine Lake.
The opening Serenity Prayer was
followed by roll call. Margaret GoCid
won the gift of the month given by
Genevieve. After a short business
meeting the women played cards.
The club will meet again on
Wednesday, Sept. 15 in
Londesborough.
A number of Londesborough
residents celebrated Dennis and
Margaret Penfound's 50th wedding
anniversary on Saturday, Aug. 21.
The couple's two daughters, Cathy
of Goderich, and Ruth Anne, of
Clinton, along with their families,
feted Dennis and Margaret at Ruth
Anne's home. The garden socializing
was followed by a salad supper.
Surprising everyone was the
arrival of Dennis' brother, Mervin,
who flew in from the west to be part
of the celebrations.
Congratulations Dennis and
Margaret, from your friends in
Londesborough and area.
Harry Lear was admitted to
Clinton Public Hospital on Aug. 16.
Once again, his ,heart was causing
him discomfort. By last weekend he
had been moved out of ICU and was
feeling much better albeit tired and
weak. Gail expects him home
sometime this week if he continues
to improve. All of us are keeping you
in our thoughts and prayers, Harry.
In a column earlier this summer, I
spoke about the variety of summer

Valerie Van Riesen was the guest
organist at Londesborough United'
Church on Sunday, Aug. 22.
During the children's time, Rev.
Pat Cook told the story of the
invention of the zipper. Whitcomb
Judson was an inventor who was
working on a transportation system
for the city of Chicago when he was
asked by a friend to find some way to
help his arthritic ridden father do up
his shoes.
The invention of the zipper in
1891, done out of love and caring,
was probably more important in
God's sight than the transportation
system. Such a small thing as the
zipper revolutionized the clothing
industry.
The morning's Old Testament
reading, Jeremiah 1: 4-10, is the
recounting of God calling Jeremiah
to be His prophet. God promised to
bless Jeremiah's work.
The responsive psalm, Psalm 71, is
an acknowledgement by David that
God has always been a safe haven for
him.
Such a Blessing, was the title of
Rev. Cook's message and the
supporting scripture was Luke 13:
10-1.7. While teaching in the
synagogue, Jesus healed a woman
who for 18 years had been crippled.
This woman represents anyone who
may be oppressed, bent over by care,
ignored by the public and devalued
by society. She received such a
blessing -from Christ. Like many in
society the woman came to worship
with others who also had needs both
obvious and unseen.
Leaders of the synagogue criticized
Jesus for working on the Sabbath.
They, too, were bent over — by rules
and regulations. God blessed the
Sabbath - Day for rejuvenation so
those in need could be set free by
God's blessings.
Rev. Pat posed the question, "Why
do persons miss God speaking to
them?" His love will -free us from
oppression when we respond to His
