We're into the last stretch of the
holidays. Just a very few precious
summer days left to be free of school
and all the stuff that goes with that
schedule. Darn.
Summer days are just supposed to
be a time to wonder and wander the
mysteries of life. Because we live in
a land of privilege we have the joy of
choosing what we do with our time.
And so we are able to spend it in
various ways, and everyone's idea of
a good time is very different. For all
affected that's a good thing.
Families and economies would be
devastated if we were all alike in how
we spend our leisure. Canoeing in the
quiet, tenting in the bush, travelling
to see friends and family, strolling the
beach, fishing from the dock, these
and many other options are all valid
choices to call holidays. Each one to
the right person is a little bit of
heaven captured. I hope you had a
good one.
Congratulations are extended to
Jonathan Schwartzentruber as he
achieved 84.5 per cent in his Grade 8
piano, giving him First Class
Honours from the Conservatory of
Canada. Parents John and Judy and
teacher Margaret Kai are pleased that
his work and effort have been duly
recognized. Well done.
There are some nasty little bugs on
the loose. You know the ones that
make you pay attention to every
small tummy rumble. Beware, this
kind of bug is on the move and would
love to spend time with you. So just a
reminder that hand washing is the
most effective method of preventing
the spread of many diseases so do
your part and wash properly before
eating and after toileting and any
other time you know you should.
Wash well and you may not get it.
Peter Workman has been in and
about Cranbrook and Brussels
entertaining family and friends with
adventure stories of life with the Inuit
and the ways and means of living in
Iqualiuit. The beauty of the
landscape, the reality of the solar
system, the language and customs of
native people, the cost of food and
distances to travel made a visit with
the Workmans very entertaining and
informative.
See you at Christmas, Peter.
Enjoy the flowers.
Bye now, Betty G.W.

A correction on where to find
Brussels Legion elimination draw
tickets. They are available at the
Brussels Variety or the Branch and
not at Murray's Barbershop this
year. Sorry for the confusion.
Branch members also have
tickets. The early bird draw is
Sept. 11.
The Branch is enjoying a visit
from Ada Karpi, Las Vegas and
daughter Lana from Ohio. They
have dropped in a few times and
Ada is here for a month. Ada is the
sister of the late Doreen Rutledge.
The Friday night slipper of
chicken wings was enjoyed by
close to 40 people. This week is
Octoberfest sausage.
The next week is the Labour Day
weekend and the cooks are taking
a holiday.
A few comrades are feeling a
little under the weather and we
hope Ross Bennett and Dave
Branch has Las Vegas visitor
Taylor are feeling better soon. month at 8 p.m.
The Legion hall was the site for
the Lefor/Tully wedding reception.
We congratulate the young couple.
We are now accepting dues for
2005 Legion year. Pay early and
get in on the early bird draws held
in September, October, and
November. You can win you 2006
dues.
Cadets start in September. Adult
leaders are needed. Information
can be received by contacting
Capt. John Grobbo at Gorrie.
Veteran Frank Cardiff, a resident
at Huronlea, will celebrate being
85 years young on Sept. 10. We
invite our fellow comrades to drop
in and wish him happy birthday
that day at Huronlea between 2 - 4
p.m.
The regular general meetings
will resume in September. We
