Brussels U-6 IVs win
4-Hers go western
By Ashley Casemore
The fourth meeting of the Walton
4-H club was held on Thursday, July
29 from 7 - 9 p.m. at the new
Cowboy Loft in Brussels.
First, members talked about the
different disciplines riders do with
their horses such as reining,
dressage, cutting and barrel racing.
The roar of motocross swept over
Walton this past week. The Lee farm
was filled with riders and their
families for three days of amateur
racing and the Amateur
championship.
The Grand National
Championship Pro riders arrived for
the weekend to vie for the title on
Sunday's race day.
The-village of Walton's population
swells to well over 2,000 for the
week and crowds on Saturday and
Sunday were fantastic.
The many community groups who
contribute to the success of the
TransCan include the Walton Area
Sports Club overseeing gate
admissions and Brussels Minor
Hockey overseeing flagging for the
races and garbage collection. A day
after the races are over, you would
never guess that thousands of people
had been on the farm by the tidiness
and neatness of the place.
Congratulations to those Minor
Hockey folks who do such a great
job.

The Farm Safety Association,
with assistance from the Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture and Food,
Agriculture Canada and the
Canadian Agricultural Safety
Association has developed a manual
for farmers aimed at increasing
awareness on the safe movement of
farm equipment on the roadways.
Each year in Ontario as thousands
of pieces of farm equipment are
moved on the province's roads,
accidents result in property damage,
injury and even death. Farm
equipment moves at a much slower
pace than other vehicles on the
roadway and properly marked and
lighted equipment can travel safely,
warning other motorists of the
fashion for approximately over
1,500 vehicles on Sunday.
All these groups receive donations
for their hard work and long hours
committed to making the TransCan a
success. CongratulationS for
working for the betterment of their
organizations. A job well done to
everyone.
Our belated congratulations to
Chad McCallum and Crystal Semple
who were married on Aug. 7. A
beautiful lawn wedding was held at
the home of Ron and Betty
McCallum. The couple were united
in marriage by Rev. Joan Tuchlinsky
of Duff's United Church. Pictures
were taken with the KMM backhoe
and with the Grey Twp. fire truck.
Guests enjoyed light snacks before
retiring to the BMG Community
Centre for a wonderful dinner and
reception.
Chad and Crystal are residing in
Cranbrook:
Keith and Janet Bachert hosted an
Ontario wedding reception for their
newly-married son Mark and his
wife Brenda this past weekend. They
were married May 22 in Portage La
Prairie.
Relatives and friends gathered to
enjoy a dinner and social evening
together. Mark and Brenda will be
going to Nicaragua, Central
America.
The Walton Hall was the meeting
place for the McCall family reunion
on Sunday with approximately 27
relatives gathered, they enjoyed a
potluck lunch, games and social
visit. Clara Perrie was the oldest
McCall in attendance.
Relatives attended from Wingham,
hazard.
The Association hopes to make all
users of the roadway aware of slow
moving vehicles during the busiest
times of the year. Motorists should
anticipate encountering such
vehicles in rural areas and adjust
their driving habits accordingly.
The booklet will also serve to
remind farmers of their obligations
under the Hightvay Traffic Act to
properly mark their vehicles.
Copies of the manual entitled
"The Safe Movement of
Agricultural Equipment on the
Roadway" can be obtained free of
charge from the Farm Safety
Association Inc., 101 - 75 Farquhar
St., Guelph, ON N1H 3N4.

Friday night.
He spent time visiting his sister
Karin in Bayfield as well as an old
friend, and saw a few others before
heading back to Vancouver.
