(Elyse DeBruyn photo) Council updated on CBO issue By Bonnie Gropp Citizen editor Deputy-reeve Murray. Scott told North Huron councillors on Monday night that he felt the county was not interested in taking over the responsibility of a chief building official. Stating that he had come to the conclusion following a recent meeting of the Huron County committee of the whole, Scott added that he had also gotten the impression that some municipalities don't see the need for partnering. At the first North Huron council meeting of this month, councillors had expressed many concerns regarding the new provincial regulations that mean chief building officials must be certified. They felt the cost of having one in North Huron would be great and thought that establishing a partnership with another municipality to share the service would be an option. By Bonnie Gropp Citizen editor Residents of Sunset Drive in Blyth won't have that address much longer. North Huron clerk-administrator John Stewart told councillors at their Monday night meeting that they had been contacted by 9-1-1 and told the They also discussed the idea of having one chief building official for the entire county. Reeve Doug Layton added his opinion of the committee meeting to Scott's saying that many seemed to think the province wouldn't proceed on this. "I found that all hard to believe." Stewart agreed saying that this isn't like some programs where a municipality could sit back and wait for the government to respond. "The chief building official has to sign to issue a building permit, and I don't know of any who would put their name on a permit if they aren't certified. Any problem would come back on them." Layton said he had also tried to speak in favour of the county taking on the responsibility but noted that it had fallen "on deaf ears." Stewart is bringing a recommendation back to council on how to proceed at the Sept. 7 meeting. name would have to be changed as there were too many "Sunsets" in Huron County. After some discussion on possible names for the street, council agreed with Stewart's suggestion that the three property owners on Sunset Drive be given the opportunity to express their opinions on an appropriate name.
