PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, AUGUST 19, 2004.
Another bit of summer is gone and
by the feel of the weather several
times in the week it wasn't really
very hard at all to accept that fact.
Actually it felt more like September
already.
Enjoying the week took on several
forms for various folks in the
village. Only your area of interest
affected your place of enjoyment.
Large numbers of the community
were in Walton at the TransCan as
spectators, participants in the races,
first aid folks, track control as
spotters flaggers, garbage and clean-
up crews. Yes, there were lots of
spots to bOad in the big picture of
keeping that many people
comfortable and safe at a function of
this magnitude. The traffic and the
modes of transport of the racing
bikes was in itself fun to watch.
Sounded like another good time.
If you wanted things a little more
sedate the Presbyterian Church was
celebrating its anniversary. Food,
fun and visiting were the things to
do as they welcomed former
families and clergy, Ken and
Carolyn, to make this a good party
for the church.
It was celebration time for the
Gropp and Finch families as they
attended the wedding of Jason
Gropp and Lisa McLellan in
Waterloo on Saturday. Also present
from Brussels were Steve, Holly and
Nolan `McCutcheon. •
It was a perfect day for the
backyard ceremony uniting Jenn
Machan and Shawn Nicholson at the
home of the bride's parents, Carman
and Sandra. Many locals attended,
including Dale and Gord Finch who
made a quick trip back from
Waterloo in time for the reception.
Congrats to both sets of
newlyweds.
The family of the late Roy and
Elma Cousins held their annual
picnic at the home of John and
Merle Cousins on Sunday, Aug. 15.
The 46 attending came from
London, St. Thomas, Kitchener,
Guelph, Newmarket, Wingham,
Bayfield and Brussels.
Testing soccer skills went -on last
week as well as Saturday as the
various teams had their, wind-up
games for another year. Lots of sun
and fun there as well as the ball
tournaments proving again that
summer is on the wane.
Music is a big part of our larger
community. For years Goderich has
offered a Sunday night concert at the
Harbour Park — my Grandfather
Jenkins took me a time or two, so
that's a few years past. Now the
Business Association of The Square
co-ordinates Thursday jazz nights
for our enjoyment. Lovers of the big
band sound were, well satisfied this
past Thursday as the Stratford Big
Band put several local ladies in a
mellow mood. The variety of music
offered over the summer is
excellent. Celtic music as well as
Joshua Gropp were on the lineup
earlier in the summer, so the variety
is part of the fun. We live in a very
good spot - good dean air, space to
move and a good variety of things to
do and see in easy reach.
Say an extra prayer for the farmers
this week as they try to cope with all
the market problems as well as the
cool, wet weather. I like Lori and
Kevin Sturgeon's sign that says "If
you ate today thank a farmer". Take
that a step higher and say a prayer
for their work and then tell them
thanks.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
Much appreciated
