Fed steers, heifers sell steady last week

Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending Aug.
6 were 1,712 head of cattle, 706
lambs and goats. The fed steers and
heifers sold at prices steady to last
week's market. Fancy and double-
muscle steers and heifers sold $84 to
$90 with sales up to $112. Choice
steers and heifers sold $77 to $81
'and second-cut steers and heifers
sold $70 to $75. The cows sold on a
steady market. On Thursday the veal
sold on a strong active trade while
the lambs sold slightly under pres-
sure. On Friday all weights and
classes of stockers sold on a strong
active trade.
There were 464 steers on offer.
Enoch Martin, Linwood, consigned
one blue steer weighing 1,375 lbs.
which sold for $112. His overall
offering of fourteen steers averaged
1,448 lbs. selling for an average
price of $99.79. Ten steers con-

Livestock for the week ending July
30 were 1,654 head of cattle, 715
lambs and goats. On Tuesday the fed
steers and heifers sold on a steady
market. Fancy and double-muscle
steers and heifers sold $85 to $90
with sales up to $95.75. Choice
steers and heifers sold $77 to $83
and second-cut steers and heifers
sold $72 to $75. The cows sold at
prices steady with last week's. On
Thursday the veal sold on a strong
active trade with prices $2 to $5
higher. The lambs also traded on a
good active trade at prices $5 to $10
higher. On Friday all weights and
classes of stockers sold on a steady
market.
There were 421 steers on offer.

two steers averaging 1,511 lbs. sold

Following a meeting with contract
nursery and finishing growers in
January at which growers said they
couldn't go along with a proposal
that they defer contract growing fees
for four months, Paddon & Yorke, as
the chief restructuring officer, rec-
ommended the termination of all
contracts and received court
approval.
On May 27 the court approved
purchase of the companies' assets by
John Rasenberg of Exeter, brother of .
Miriam Terpstra. Terms of the sale
are sealed by the court but it includ-
ed all inventory of livestock, sup-
plies and equipment for resale, all
plant, machinery and equipment, all
for an average of $77.59.

aged 1,358 lbs. which sold for an
average price of $76.52 with his top
simmental steer weighing 1,295 lbs.
