Having a holiday at Mom and
Dad's were Patricia Andredas and
Sebastian. Howard and Audrey.
Hackwell love having the.m and
enjoy taking little trips. This time
they were off to Southampton. They
toured the wind farm and saw the six
large wind turbines. They spent time
at the beach as well and enjoyed
dinner out.
When at home, Sebastian loves to
cut the lawn and Grandpa Howard is
an excellent supervisor.
Matt Lee hosted and taught a
successful Absolute Technique
motocross training school last week.
He had 25 students from all across
Ontario, from the local area, Toronto
and Sault Ste. Marie.
Many camped at the Lee farm for
the three-day school. The techniques
of riding as well as proper nutrition,
exercise and mental preparation are
taught.

On July 3l shortly after 8:30 a.m.
OPP were contacted about a
domestic situation on Brussels Line
in the village of Walton in Huron
East.
Officers were advised by a family
member that a couple who had been
living common-law together for the
last nine years were having marital
problems.
The victim and her sisters met the
officers at the road. The woman
showed signs of physical abuse and
was taken to a local hospital where
she was treated for minor injuries
and later released.
A citizen on Aug. 6 contacted
police over a male acting strangely
wandering back and forth between
traffic in the village of Blyth in
North Huron.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. an
officer located the man at the Blyth
Community Centre just off of Gypsy
Lane. He was yelling at people in the
area who were either using the
facility or doing work in the area.
The officer immediately saw that the
man was unstable and angry and
Little and Anne Halley. They were at
a farm north of Wiarton for a week
with the Chesley Saddle Club. They
had great weather and a good time.
The Walton Inn had a record day
of coffee sales as the village was
-overrun with people wondering
what was going on. With as many as
nine OPP vehicles, ambulance,
tactical squad and police dogs. the
village was full for the entire day of
the standoff. A man was taken into
custody before midnight and the
village returned to its usual
quietness.
A wonderful gathering of family
was celebrated on the Sunday of the
long weekend when the Newman
families gathered. Over 78 relatives
met at the Wingham Golf Course to
play golf, visit and enjoy a delicious
buffet dinner.
Attending were Don Newman,
Barb Tervit, Marilyn McDonald,
Doug Newman, Betty Jane Gill, Bill
Newman and various members of
their families from Halifax, Ottawa
and across Ontario.
Marilyn McDonald prepared and
distributed a family history book to
all the families and reports an
absolutely wonderful day.
The Walton Brewers enjoyed a
great day golfing at Dave Smith's
course at Cranbrook when the
Brussels fastball tournament was
cancelled. There were 16 golfers
enjoying the course with the low

old male but were refused
admittance. No one else was in the
house and there were no firearms
inside the home.
Over the next several hours
officers attempted to negotiate with
the man to turn himself in.
Huron OPP officers, assisted by
the Emergency Response Team and
canine entered the residence at
approximately 11:30 p.m. with a
warrant and arrested the man.
He has been charged with as-
sault.

The officer spoke to the man for
several minutes and was able to
finally get the person to drop the
knife.
A 41-year-old of Central Huron
was held in custody pending a bail
hearing on Aug. 6.
He was charged with weapon

A porkchop barbecue was hosted
by Steve Knight and Marni at their
home with a few more Brewers
attending.
An interesting evening of lawn
darts, mini golf and chip and putt
was enjoyed by all.
Good news to report on our
broken friends. Judy Lee had her
cast removed in time for TransCan
and is coming along in her walking
really well.
Mary Bernard's removable-type
cast is mostly removed and she is
walking pretty well. Don Nolan's
full leg cast has been removed and
the new diagnosis 'is his knee is not •
cracked or broken.
Cliff Huffman was taken to
hospital on Friday and we wish him
a speedy recovery.
We wish Curtis Ryan a speedy
recovery as he has a broken jaw as a
result of a bad fall.
Vandals have been at work around
the village and the ball park booth
suffered a broken window.
Judy Lee hosted a family bridal
shower for her daughter-in-law-to-
be Cheryl Thompson. A Pampered
Chef party was a really neat idea and
the bride-to-be chose some lovely
items.
A meet-my-husband party was
hosted by Karin McDonald Calhoun
for those who haven't met her
husband Charlie Calhoun from
Florida. Friends and family gathered
at their summer home in Bayfield
for a get-together and barbecue.

Duff's United Church, Walton has
returned to regular worship service
at 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning
following the July holiday.
The opening was a chant by Brian
Black and daughter Jennifer
Spaulding called Bashana Haba.
They also sang Here I Am Lord
following the call to worship and
announcements.
Rev. Joan Tuchlinsky welcomed
everyone back to the fold and hoped
they had a good summer. Her
reflection revolved around the
dedications that have been received
by the church over the years.

Sunday School will resume in
September as will the UCW
meetings. The fundraising
committee has been very pleased
with the response on calendar
orders. If you haven't spoken for a

that they order enough in the initial
printing. They are hoping the
calendars will be ready for early
October. They would make great
stocking stuffer or gift for
Christmas.
