After months of hard work, the owners at the Blyth Inn have
completed renovations of seven hotel rooms in the building.
The historic feel of the building still exists and is brought to
life through the three Villager rooms, two Villager deluxe
rooms, one master suite and one deluxe suite with a six-
person hot tub. This master suite offers its guests a
comfortable four-poster bed, warming fireplace and a two-
person Jacuzzi tub. (Elyse DeEttuyn photo)

There is no doubt that small towns know how to
party. The Auburn 150th was a huge success, with
beautiful weather and large crowds at all the events
and activities. It's easy to see that fun was had by
all.
It was nice to see all of our hard work and
dedication over the past two years pay off. Friends
and family from far and wide returned home to
laugh, play and reminisce. I think that our success is
due in part, that we tried to have something for all
age groups, and by the response I know we
accomplished that.
I would like to thank the entire Auburn 150th
Committee. And on behalf of the Auburn 150th
Committee and myself we would like to thank all
the volunteers, sponsors, and the municipalities of
Central Huron, North Huron, and Ashfield Colborne.
We all worked together to make a celebration that
will be remembered for years to come.

The fear is qualified building
officials will be in short supply, and
will go elsewhere after a
municipality invests $11,000 in
training. It has happened already in a
couple of instances, Stewart said.

Friends and family came to help us
do most of the work," said Nesbitt.
The Blyth Inn has a long and
infamous history which dates back
to the temperance movement of the
late 1880s.
As the Temperance Act came into
effect on May 1, -1884, patrons woke
the next day to find the main street
of Blyth lined with bottles which
apparently contained rye and port.
In that year, all five hotels were
selling liquor with or without a
license.
Then in 1886, Blyth established
four hotels and one liquor shop.
Among them was the Commercial
Hotel, known today as the Blyth Inn.
In the early years, the Commercial
Hotel also contained a small grocery
store and an ice cream par-
lour.
Since its beginning, the Blyth Inn
has had several owners including
Mr. Milne, John McCaughey, Frank
McCaughey, John Emigy, E.
Johnston, William Johnston, Harry
Johnston, Grover Clare Sr., A.J.
Glass, Kenneth Poole, Mr. Caves,
Grover Clare Jr., Adrianus Schipper,
Anne and Harry Kowlackuk, Harold
Ferguson and in 1983 Peter and
Carol Irwin.
The hotel building went through
some dramatic changes after the
Irwins purchased the property. The
first and most visible to the public
was the remodeling of the front
entrance and the change from the old
whitewash to the blue exterior seen
today.
The dividing walls between the
old Hub bar and the main area were
eliminated, windows were added to
the back and side of the structure,
halls were opened up add the
dinning room was moved.
In the area which is now the non-
smoking section. the Hub once
